Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji says, they are not called the true husband and wife, who sit (or live) together. Only when they live as if one light in two forms (in other words, even though they have two different bodies, but are one in all their thoughts and deeds), they are called (true) husband and wife.”

ਇਸਤਰੀ ਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਜੋ (ਕੇਵਲ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੈਠਣ । ਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਦੋ ਹੋਣ (ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਇਕ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਸਹੀ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ) ਓਹੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਕਹੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।
