wij day 11 | where did you find your place within the whump community?

hm, i feel like i did eventually find my place within the subgroup of whump writers (and readers) who enjoy female protagonists, and venture into nsfwhump territory.

and from there, with the assistance of some wonderful rp partners, i dipped my toes into bbu waters. i found an absolutely fascinating dystopian universe that can carry so much more than whump - but also, the whumpy opportunities are fantastic.

these two and their overlap are the place i found, and i still like it there.

Day 11: Where did you find your place within the whump community?

i think for me, one of the first subcommunities that really made me feel like i found my place was the gifmakers! especially those that had been around for longer than me and felt very established and big-name, because it turned out they were a lot of incredibly kind and approachable people. even though I don’t really make gifs myself, gifmakers were super foundational to my love for whump, I’ve been introduced to the vast majority of my favourite whumpy fandoms through gifs!! truly idk where this community would be without our gifmakers, they’ve always made me feel like this is my place and these are my people <3333 and I also wanna shout out my fellow fans of more obscure medias because truly there is no community like the dedicated fans of a show like five people have seen. and when you all want to see the same character get hurt….truly beautiful things happen. y’all know who you are. love youu <3333

Whumpmas in July - Day 11

Where did you find your place within the whump community 

I think what truly convinced me to stay was finding so many people who write original whump stories, just like me. The creativity of those who create and share about their OCs is wonderful to me, because I'm the same way, someone who loves their OCs very much and loves to talk and write about them. Sharing with other whump writers is wonderful, and I've been able to get to know, even if only a little, many amazing and talented people who make me feel that liking whump doesn't make me crazy ^^

Day 11 - Where did you find your place within the whump community?

I struggled at first when I originally joined the community to be honest. I didn't know where to start, what was appropriate. It was very much my first time in an online community and it was my first time on tumblr. it was actually through a roleplay group which eventually moved to discord where I first felt comfortable.

I had friends previous and found fics I liked, but I wasn't really ever a part of anything until I found that group, so huge shoutout to the people from there. I don't think a lot of them are still on here ngl, but if they are I fucking love you guys. Hope you're okay :)

Day 11: Where did you find your place within the whump community?

I really love being a part of the OC writers space in the whump community! I started testing the waters by participating in whump events and giving my characters a trial run, and I was absolutely over the moon to see that people not only liked them, but wanted more!

The community here has given me so much opportunity to practice and experiment with writing, and I think that's really helped me grow! Getting feedback from readers makes my day better and also helps me take notes on where I could work on things more. It's really helpful!

I of course also love reading people's OC fics! It's different from reading fanfics or even published books, but I can't quite put my finger on how or why. Whatever that difference is though, I like it. There's something really special and pure about reading someone's original fic, and I absolutely love that.

It's such a joy to be in a circle of creators who have their own characters that they bring to the table. I might not always be the most vocal about stuff (I'm trying to get better about commenting on people's fics!), but trust me, your guys live in my head and heart and make me feel and hurt and smile all the time!

Day 11: Where did you find your place within the whump community?

I wouldn't call myself a whump creator or artist, I don't post enough of my own stuff for that. Mostly I like to reblog things others have done :) I really enjoy collecting and cataloging stuff so I'm doing a lot of that for various things in the whump community (not necessarily on this blog).

I used to be just a lurker, reblogging posts to my regular main blog. That was back when I actually bothered to tag my main, and once the majority of my posts were being tagged with "whump", I decided it was time to make a separate blog 😂

Nowadays, I still do mostly reblogging but I'll occasionally throw out something of my own once in a while. TV and film whump gifsets are what I've reblogged most often and what I most like to reblog because I always get great recs for TV shows and films to watch (which is what I do most with my free time). The gif side of whumpblr is I suppose where I've spent most my time :)

The First Place I Found

Whumpmas in July Day 11!

I made my tumblr during the Covid Lockdown because I was loosing my mind. I fallowed a couple people but was very shy as I didn't have any other social media accounts at the time (not counting my pinterest).

Eventually I would start to make some friends with some of the people I was fallowing and we would not only become mutuals but toss our characters together and start playing with a what if scenario of if they're character rescued mine from their whumper.

That story would see a lot of tumblr users going back and forth in reblog chains, single answer messages, back to reblog chains, a two year hiatus, and finally to be back again as of last year.

Since the start of that collab project, I'm come much more out of my shell, started and abandoned so so many story projects (sorry to anyone who has ever sent me an ask) and I could never have dreamed talking to writers I admire as casually as I do now.

2021 me, you'd be proud.

Day 11: Finding Community

Well, this didn't actually post, it got stuck in my drafts. Whoops!

I'm very happy I made the decision to make more friends in the whump community, getting out of my comfort zone. Like, you know, after so many years having it drilled into my head "don't talk to strangers on the internet" as a kid, it was hard for me to do that now even as an adult.

My biggest leap in doing so was joining @whumpyourdamnpears discord server because I've never regretted it since. I'm so grateful for the people I've met and gotten to know in there and hope to keep in contact/be friends with them for years to come ❤️
