Gonna begin this list with a blanket shoutout to the iconic @lady-wallace (AO3 here), @glassladyoftheopera (AO3 here), and @waffles-in-winter (AO3 here), three of the most talented whump writers I've had the honor of calling friends and collaborating with. <3 Go check out their AO3s! Imagine me putting every fic of theirs on this list.

Now, some more specific recs / shoutouts (from authors not already mentioned):

"Reverb" by Cirripedia. Post-"Midnight" Tenth Doctor whump and h/c with Donna, my favorite companion. I care them.

"I'll Miss Him Forever" by gauchoamigo / realizationtime. A tender exploration of Giorno's friendship with Bucciarati and post-canon grief. This fic changed my life. I dunno if the author has a Tumblr, but if so - please let me know so I can give them a shoutout.

"Let Me See" by xxcntrs. Giorno Whump. A classic.

"When You Were Young You Shone Like The Sun" by lawboy. Josuke and Jotaro doubling and exploration of their respective baggage.

"Flesh and Blood" by lawboy. Okuyasu and Keicho emotional whump.

"Communication Breakdown" by c_c_cherry. Good ol' Abba found family.

"Baby Mine" by ThisLittleViolet. Giorno gets turned into a child and the team begins to realize that he had one heck of a past.

"Drowning Alone In The Night" by li2. Giorno whump.

"Ripped Out" by CryRan88. Once again, Giorno whump.

"Buried Fears" by CryRan88. Guess what? It's Giorno whump (I love Giorno whump okay)

Other honorable mentions that I cannot find right now include:

A zombie AU fic where Bruno is turned and has to be mercy killed by Abbacchio (I think?)

The Self-Sharpened Fangs series by @redwhump !!

It only has a few parts posted so far but its really good! Has some of my favorite tropes (whumper-turned-whumpee and vampire whumpees) and is based off one of my favorite series, the Kane & Jim series by @whumpsday

also this post by @whatwhumpcomments that was done in response to a post i made about one of my FAVORITE tropes ie the “awkward villain roommate” who has joined the hero team and knows they’re unwelcome and feels bad about it. its so good its literally so good. i was waiting for SO LONG for someone to write something in response to that post because i love the trope and love what they wrote and just....villains joining the hero team but not being welcomed and wanting to be accepted but oof...this villain had tortured one of the heroes previously, so it makes things kind of difficult for the heroes to accept villain’s presence and its just...that ending tho

@whumpmasinjuly Day 7: Brag about a creator or piece of whump you think is underrated

I think there's a lot content here in the community that is just really amazing and doesn't have as much publicity / fame / interaction as I think it deserves.

That said, I definitely have some recommendations:

@for-the-love-of-nsfwhump is such a talented writer, their writing is poetic and descriptive and goes right under my skin. (Also, their smut game is excellent!). I think their writing doesn't get as much attention as it deserves - go check them out! There's several series and AUs and you'll sure find something to you liking. Ofc I have to mention our [very underrated crossover], but also [this intense piece of pure noncon].

@just-horrible-things has a lot of great content and characters, and these days I am absolutely in love with their series [Just Acting]. But tbh everything they do is fantastic, from one shots to series. [Here] is their masterpost.

Some more underappreciated (?) writers that I love are @painful-pooch (great characters, unique whumpers and so many great ideas), @whumping-newbie (please come back with more content maybe??), @distinctlywhumpthing (I know I don't follow your latest series but I loved Together and Apart so much!), @winedark-whump (such amazing writing and characterisation, and so much to unveil in his characters) and well - everyone who writes lady whump overall because let's just say it, lady whump is underrated!!

And ofc, there's also some underrated pieces of myself: [Victoria], one of my first (fade to black) noncon pieces but still very good, in a Victorian fantasy setting; and this very different one, [Playground], about a very traumatised man finally seeing a chance at revenge. And very different yet again, [Mark and Gemma get a pet] is my mundane BBU series and I am very proud of it.

Sadly, I wasn´t able to post Day 7 yesterday, so hopefully I will be able to do Day 7 and Day 8 today.

I will just mention some of my favourite works or blogs:

- @secretwhumplair The No warrior series is just amazing. Language boundries, an afraid whumpee who thinks caretaker is a new whumper, multible povs, really good portrayal of feelings. If you haven´r read it yet check it out.

- @whumpzone I´m sure it isn´t the first time I mention her awesome writing on my blog but both, Rowe´s and Colton´s stories, are just so good. All her characters are so unique and really have depth.

- another incredible good blog is @whump-mania. All her whump lines are so inspiring and J gets the best out of every request.

- Not to forget @whump-tr0pes. Athena´s Honor bound series is the perfect mixture of exiting plot and whump. Also her characters are amazing (seems that I use this word a lot in this post). I don´t know how to describe it but I love all of the characters, even those I don´t like.

- Today I discovered @whumpurr´s blog. Their story about Adrien and Sawdust does have potential. I´d love to read more and I think it will turn out amazing.

I´m not sure if these stories are underrated but I can´t stress enough how amazing they are.

So many people, so few time, so little room in my brain... so let’s hit the ground running, huh?

@boxboysandotherwhump -- has multiple absolutely wonderful series ongoing and is a talented artist on top of all that. Their post-apocalyptic series is truly gripping and the epistolary story telling is incredibly engaging. Honestly, go check out their stuff.

@whumpopology -- April’s series (which I think is complete, but the sequel is starting up -- April, dear, please correct me if I’m wrong) is just delightful. I, as a redhead, have a weakness for redheaded OCs and Ivy is up there as one of my all-time favorites. Ivy is 100% on my list of “characters I need to make a moodboard for”; she is a rich and nuanced character, and I love her.

@sableflynn -- As I said, I have a weakness for redheaded characters. Sable has Felicia. Felicia is wonderful -- there’s even an AU where Felicia and Ivy know each other, so get the heck on that, y’all -- and I will protect her with all my heart. Also: Volkan is *chef’s kiss* excellent.

@walkingchemicalfire​ -- the Luca series is fire and if you haven’t wandered over to the stuff they’re putting out for this year’s WIJ prompts, you’re missing out. Seriously. Missing. Out.

@herkatively​ -- Herk is lovely, their writing is gloriously atmospheric. Go say hello, go read their stuff, go be nice, they deserve all the love so get in there.

@whumpingwithaquestionableauthor​ -- despite being a Dnd player, fantasy whump tends to not be my thing but THIS. THIS series GETS ME. I need to get back into reading it as soon as I have a brain again. Someday soon, I promise.

Please understand: this is an EXTREMELY SHORT short list of all the wonderful writers floating around in the community. There are (a) too many for me to name and (b) genuinely too many wonderful stories that you could do nothing else but read for the rest of time and you’d still miss out on something; and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Whumpmas in July - Day 7 (July 7th)

For today’s discussion, talk about your favorite underrated or underused whump tropes! This topic varies a lot depending on what fandom or corner of whump tumblr you spend the most time in. Maybe there’s a trope you wish more people would use or a scenario you want to see play out more. Maybe you wish there was more art, or comics, or mix tapes. Chat about what you’d love to see more of here, and maybe someone else will see your wish and get inspired!

Whumpmas in July, Day 7!

I'm not sure about underrated cause how could anyone not love everything on there, but @pretty-face-breaker brings joy into my life. I will say that if you haven't checked out Ace's AO3 go do it right now. Some of my favorite Nick/Hayko fics are on there and Mmmm are they beautiful.

Basically I read fantasy/sci-fi pretty exclusively and somehow Ace got me out of my reading comfort zone and loving it. Who would've thought I'd be such a sucker for a, crime thriller? Drama? Romance? It surpasses genre in the best possible way. Just, yes please.

WIJ Day 7: Whump Style or Trope to See More of

I’d probably say I’m really interested in seeing more supernatural or urban fantasy stuff! Again, maybe this is a bit driven by writing Fae bb, but I just find it so fun to explore magic and creatures and all the ways that allows us as writers to push the limits of what’s humanly possible, both to suffer and to cause suffering. That sounds really dark, but I just think it lets you get creative in your story, find that catharsis, or get that great description! So yeah, bring on the vampires, the werewolves, the superheroes, the steampunk magic worlds and the modern ones, I wanna see myself in a monster, and I want to analyze that suffering with all my English major brain.
