I LOVE EMOTIONAL WHUMP TOO!!!!!!!
do u have any media recs for emotional whump? (ik its kinda hard to rec for, it's not like physical whump tropes that are pretty clear cut 😅)
some things i like that have a lot of emotional whump are: land of mine (film), dept q. (tv show), xmen days of future past (or any of them honestly) (film), and white collar (tv show)
I'm one of those guys who's seen about 3 pieces of media in his life and then watches them on repeat for eternity so I apologise for the lists being a little basic and short
This Is Going To Hurt — PTSD, struggling relationship, mental health, job stress
Baby Reindeer — contains physical whump and noncon as well but stalking & emotional abuse is the biggest theme
Lockwood & Co — the main characters all have undertones of neglect and suicidal ideation
Waterloo Road — set in an English secondary school with lots of students going through very emotionally whumpy times
Heated Rivalry — mental health, grief, undertones of abuse, homophobia, navigating a closeted relationship, perfectionism, stress
Dead Poets Society — suicide, emotional abuse
Good Will Hunting — PTSD and living with the aftermath of abuse
The Breakfast Club — the characters have issues, implied/referenced abuse, shitty teachers
The Lost Boys (Jessie Walker) — mental health, abuse, dysfunctional relationships
It's Kind Of A Funny Story (Ned Vizzini) — mental health, psychiatric hospitals
A Little Life — controversial, I know, but there's lots in there even if it's not everyone's cup of tea
The Hunger Games — classic physical whump but also deals with PTSD, addiction, suicide, grief, neglect, growing up too fast, manipulation, mind control, corruption, indoctrination, and abuse
Next to Normal — grief, mental health, dysfunctional family, suicide
People, Places, and Things — addiction
Come From Away — grief, stress, coming together to form a community amidst unexpected trauma
Hadestown — grief, time loops, hopelessness
