One of the recurring themes in Wildbow's "Claw" involves names: contrasting the name that one character uses when thinking of another vs. what name they say outloud vs. what name the other character would prefer for them to use. And obviously it makes sense that we would see this in a book where some of the main characters have a profession that revolves around helping people escape their old identity by giving them a new one, but even outside of that, the writer is going out of his way to show the real-time transition of what name characters use when thinking about themselves and others.
