In Celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth Howard County Council Member Dr. Calvin Ball Honors Reverend Dr. Ruteena Blake. Ball presented her with a proclamation from the Howard County Government for her many achievements throughout the years in her work with the children and youth of Howard County, Maryland. Reverend Ruteena Blake -- A Pioneer of #Columbia Maryland (49 years as a resident) Ruteena Blake has been a resident of Columbia Maryland since 1969. She is a mother who has raised four children. She has been a devoted wife who assisted her husband, the late Dr. Vincent R. Blake in building his pediatric practice in Baltimore, Maryland. A trial blazer, a renaissance woman --- these are just a few descriptions of Ruteena Blake. But she can best be described as a woman who derives the greatest satisfaction in #encouraging and #motivating the youth of Howard County. She derives great joy in helping young people in finding their own voices through the development and cultivation of their natural gifts and talents. Ruteena Blake, who was educated and trained in the field of nursing, has always possessed a natural gift for folk singing and dramatic performances. The Columbian pioneer is credited for bringing the first original play to Columbia. Her play, "Save. The Children" was not only written by Blake but she also successfully produced two days of performances in March, 1972 at the Slayton House of #WildeLake Village. As one of the youngest members of the Young Peoples Travel Club Alumni, I was delighted to be there to honor Mrs. Blake & reconnect with so many familiar faces. She says she has pictures of our encounter w Jesse Jackson's press conference... Stay tuned 😉 (at George Howard Building, Howard County Government)
