Have some pictures of our campus! The campus is home to well over 100 western red cedar trees and we have multiple second growth stands of doug firs, hemlocks and spruces as well.  Our 3/4 acre pond is one of our favorite areas on the property. Trout and perch call it home and we are beginning to plant the outer edges with edible and wildlife attracting plants. The orchard and our main growing area. A homesteading couple once lived on this property 50 years ago and planted trees from all over the world. We currently have 15 producing apple trees and 1 plum. Right now, we're gathering all of the leaves on the 8 acre property for mulching and building compost bins. We're also clearing out bramble to make room for plantings in the spring.

Jamie cleaned out the settling tank in our current water system. When we moved onto the property, there was close to 4 inches of muck on the bottom of the tank. Even though it's now free of muck, we will soon be redesigning our water system to take full advantage of the spring fed creek running down from the top of our propety. We'll be sure to document the process when it begins.

English hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata). One of my all time favorite permaculture shrubs/trees. The berries are waxy and provide wildlife with food during the winter when it's scarce. Since it's thorny, I plant it on the outskirts of my garden to prevent deer from entering. What's even better is that you can graft pears and medlars to the top of it and not have to worry about animal browsing due to the thorns below.

Wilderness Family

The Tirol region of Austria is a magical place. Satya and I stayed with Ron and Geli in Mutters for four nights. I challenge the beaches of Italy to be more relaxing than lying in the sun, breathing the fresh mountain air, and gazing at the craggy snow covered peaks of the Alps. Ron and Geli have an air about them that breathes home and stability, and they reconfirmed my desire to work with my hands in ways that I hadn't even considered before. Each night Geli cooked increasingly massive portions of traditional Tirolian dishes as she went to battle with the insatiable hunger that Satya and I claimed to possess.

Ron took me skiing in the Alps which, beyond allowing me to casually brag at social gatherings, was truly wonderful. Their six year old son Milan tried to give me a run for my money by having me follow him through the twisting and turning side paths which are best suited for those of a shorter stature. I have my father to thank for teaching me to ski at a young age and giving me the skills needed to not make a total fool of myself. Well, on the slopes at least.
