Walked up to Uli's house in Mylopotas. It's looking so pretty amidst the greenery and the flowers. Robbie' made an excellent job of freshening it up & painting it as well as tidying up outside. Although Robbie's living there now, I'll always think of it as Uli's house & always feel very close to him here. While I was up here a friend called me up who's going through a very tough time & I tried to give her as much love & support as I could. It brought back many painful memories of Uli's time in hospital, but it also brought back some very sweet memories of that time too & funny little incidents that weren't funny at the time. As I was up in Uli's favourite place, I could also think back on many happy times together here and I felt him very much around & trying to give us strength & make us smile. Had a wonderful walk today, one that I think Uli'd have enjoyed: from the village to the port via Skarkos. Funnily enough we'd never done this walk together as we always walked to Skarkos from the port. In fact it's only this year that I've taken this route and I've thoroughly enjoyed being in the midst of fields & farms on each side of the path. Uli would've loved the wild flowers & greenery. As I ended up walking along the port beach, I felt I'd combined both rural Ios and the sea & so combined both of our loves. Walking down the donkey path to the port. I love the tenaciousness of the wild flowers - they push themselves through any little crack in the rocks or flagstones. Back home now after a chat with Hugh who was painting wood for the shop. There's a certain energy in the air as those with businesses are preparing for the new season. It's a good buzz. As it's rained a lot, the island is still green and awash with wild flowers. So pretty. Have spent most of the day at home enjoying the vibes there. Will go out a bit later to meet up with a friend & have a bite to eat. A natural way of mowing the greenery & fertilising the ground. After drinking far too much yesterday, I decided to take it easy today & not venture far. Went for coffee at Foiniki & bumped into Robbie & now I'm back home preparing to cook. Instead of pancakes, I'm going to make fruit scones for this afternoon & a nettle soup for this evening.
