I can get desperate and to the point where I'll read almost anything, but that doesn't mean I have to lavish it with praise. IDK.

Story of my life. I have an… interesting relationship with fanfic, and that’s one of my biggest gripes, that people will just eat up low-quality stuff.

I'll read some stuff that's mediocre, and I know taste is subjective, but sometimes there are these fics - and they're not like that Darkness in Sandor bullshit or Broken Wing, they aren't inherently problematic and catering to a specific kink/fic preference/woobying fix or controversial and garnering attention that way - they're just...there.

There's nothing new. The plot is pretty run of the mill. The writing is cluttered and clumsy, the prose is over the top and sometimes hysterically bad, and the smut is long-winded and more obnoxious than erotic. I've seen a couple of fics like that, they just make me laugh, at their expense, yet people LOVE THEM.

And I wonder if I'm just not getting it.

I assumed a guy but if I’ve learned anything from tumblr it’s “don’t assume gender identity” so I’ve been calling the author “they” (while silently assuming it’s a dude because mIsAnDrY!!1)

It might be. I can't tell. I've been thinking of the author generally as "that really gross person who needs to GTFO of the shipdom"

The author’s username is “briancap”. Is it a guy? Because that would make it 1000% more cringe-inducing.

Yes, fleshy needs to go. Slick... can be used right, but rarely is. And omg moist.
