[dismp] a door is closed. did you notice it was open?
this is one of those questions where i'd have a better answer if i could draw. --that's a joke but i do mean it. there'd be, like--symbolism and shit. instead i have to write it out. not that there isn't symbolism in my writing, or that you can't--ugh, you know what i mean. i thought about doing a web weave for this but i'm on vacation and i'm impatient to answer.
i don't know which door you're talking about. i knew, before yesterday, that i would be closing some doors and opening others. i know a couple of the doors i closed. you might be one of them, or you might not. hard to know, under the veil of anonymity. i know a couple of the doors i opened. i don't think it's possible to know all of them.
many days, maybe all of them, i close doors i know are there alongside doors i didn't know were there. any actions you take--those close the doors on other possibilities, other branches, other futures that could've taken root. so much of life is the butterfly effect. i can point to examples where a choice i made led to a big door opening or closing: on a friendship, a friend group, a pet, a job, a place to live. sometimes i knew when i was choosing. sometimes i didn't. more often, somewhere in between.
sometimes it feels like if i just try not to close the door on anyone then it'll all be okay. but you can't be open with everyone and still keep everyone's trust. and if you're just avoiding closing doors rather than trying to open new ones it's easy to fall into stagnation. staying perfectly still in case the breeze of your movement might swing a door shut. i've lived like that before. it's not a good way for me to live ever, let alone on divorcesteal. i played too much like that in s1, and i regret it. here, at least, the consequences aren't real.
there's a game i like, called heaven will be mine. it's by the same people as we know the devil, if you've heard of that. the fact that you should play it isn't very related to this ask, although you should, because it's a very good game, it's a visual novel about t4t lesbian drama in space and it's also about child abuse and narrative control and why playing games is fun and queer discourse. and, of course, mecha battles. but that's all beside the point. the point is that each faction has a little tagline that you get when you make choices that align with them. those choices change which ending you get, for yourself, for all of humanity. this is the tagline for celestial mechanics:
it doesn't mention a door. just open and close. but you get the idea. it would've been in the web weave, if i had made one.
