“The World Will be a Less Tuneful Place Without Him:” Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger Dead at 52
Adam Schlesinger, the Fountains of Wayne co-founder, music producer and songwriter for movies and television, died April 1 after being diagnosed with COVID-19, Rolling Stone reported.
“It was impossible to spend a minute with Adam Schlesinger and not feel all lit up by his boyish enthusiasm for music,” RS’ Rob Sheffield said in a tweet. “He was a worldly adult who somehow never lost that that pure glow of fandom. He was one of a kind and this is just a devastating loss.”
The musician was 52.
“Adam Schlesinger was one talented man and the world will be a less tuneful place without him,” Rick Springfield tweeted. “... Love and healing to his family.”
In addition to Fountains of Wayne (“Stacy’s Mom”), Schlesinger was a founding member of Ivy and Tinted Windows.
“Really sad to hear about the passing of Adam Schlesinger,” Will Hoge said on Facebook. “His songwriting was great. My condolences to his friends and family.”
He produced the Monkees’ 2016 LP Good Times!, wrote the theme song for “That Thing You Do!” and music for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Josie and the Pussycats” and the theme for Kathy Griffin’s talk show, among many other credits.
“Adam Schlesinger was wildly talented,” the comedian tweeted as she remembered him guiding her in recoding the number.
“He was so patient with me. ... He did the gig as a favor, in a little home studio on a Saturday.”
Ben Lee opened for Fountains of Wayne and on Twitter remembered his friend of more than two decades as “an exemplary craftsman, artist and mensch.
“Love you buddy.”

Will Hoge - Not That Cool
Excuse me Do you have the time? 'Cause I've been here waiting since a quarter after nine And it is not true love that I'm hoping I will find No the truth is that I just don't want to be alone tonight
Sunday Tunes
There's a flag flying overhead And I used to think it meant one thing But now I've grown up and seen the world And I know what it really means I wanted it to be the symbol of a boy Who wasn't scared to take a stand But now I know it's just a hammer driving nails In the coffin of a long dead land Oh, and I can't take it anymore But I'm still a southern man I don't want your stars and bars And your blood on my damn hands I'm looking away now, Dixie, Cause I've seen all I can stand But I'm still a southern man The line really ain't that thin Between heritage and hate One saying, "Yes, Ma'am" and "Thank you" And making sure you pull your own weight The other’s what happens when you try to hold down Anybody that ain't just like you You can call it what you want But it's a goddamn shame And I'm glad I finally see the truth Oh, I can finally see the truth But I'm still a southern man I don't want your stars and bars And your blood on my damn hands I'm looking away now Dixie Cause I've seen all I can stand But I'm still a southern man You say, "Where's your rebel pride boy?" Well sorry Mister, it's all gone That flag ain't never led to one thing good Tear it down, I wanna tear it down But I'm still a southern man I'm looking away now, Dixie, Cause I've seen all I can stand But I'm still a southern man
A playlist featuring Meiko, Brandi Carlile, Nico, and others
Anyway, here’s my favorite fall play list that I have been editing for, wow, almost TEN YEARS now. It’s got some pretty heavy coffee shops vibes but its mainly for that peaceful walk through fallen leaves, the smell of earth, the feeling of cozy sweaters, dappled light, and good hearts <3
Featuring The Head & the Heart, Alexi Murdoch, Will Hoge, Meiko, Missy Higgins, Ryan Adams, Rilo Kiley, Karen O, The Kooks, Ingrid Michaelson, Band of Horses, Ellie Goulding, & More
Someday soon you won't cross my mind Someday soon might be a long, long time One more trip around the block One more hour off the clock One more wasted afternoon Missing you, missing you Another night not worth a damn Another day and here I am Wishing I was through Missing you, missing you
Oh and I don't believe in the devil But you might make me go and change my mind
