We are wrapping up our investigation into the cause of the fire that destroyed the Willcox Apartment Complex. Please expect an announcement within the coming days as to the cause of the fire - several of you have sent emails and called our offices for updates so we know that the release of this information can’t come soon enough.
At this time, Willcox Apartments has been condemned and plans are being made to demolish what remains of the building. We at Willcox Insurance and Trust are in the process of exploring more permanent placement options for all of our current residents. Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last couple of days. We know that it has been a very difficult process for many of you.
Amy knocked lightly on her brother’s hotel room door. She’d texted him a couple of times throughout the day to check in on Charlotte and let him know when she’d be home from seeing Tobias, but otherwise hadn’t really communicated with her brother all that much since Sunday night. He had his own stuff going on and there was no way she was going to bother him. “Hey,” she said with a faint smile when he pulled open the door. “Thank you again for this.”
While Amy had been completely adamant about going to Willcox the moment it was said they could go back to the apartments, after spending the afternoon with Toby at the hospital, she was too drained emotionally and physically to even begin sorting through what was left of her home. Standing outside the fence that had been installed around the remains of the building at some point, Amy could already feel tears filling her eyes. “This was a terrible idea.”
“I’m sorry.” Amy sniffled, roughly rubbing her hands over her face. “I-I didn’t mean to do all this.” She shook her head. She’d meant to come to Shay’s room to check on her little sister, see how she was doing now that she was out of the hospital, but somehow it had turned into Amy crying almost the moment her little sister had opened the door.
Who: Amy Slade (Mentions Charlotte, Iron Man, and Quicksilver)
Where: Hotel
When: Tuesday, July 19
Trigger Warning: Nightmares? Description of fire/being burned (kind of depends on what you assume)
Summary: Amy’s having nightmares and trouble sleeping...not that she’ll tell anyone that.
Heat.
She was surrounded by a solid wall of heat.
Smoke, thick and dark filled the air making it difficult to breathe - almost impossible to see.
Flames licked at her skin, her clothes.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t find a door...a window...a way out. She was trapped.
As the flames got closer, surrounding her. Trapping her. Her eyes shot open with an aborted scream. Heart racing, she looked blindly around the room, though she didn’t know what she was looking for until her eyes landed on her daughter curled with Quicksilver and Iron Man beside her.
With shaking hands, she pushed herself up and took several stumbling steps to the bathroom. She couldn’t lose it so close to Charlotte, she was still shaken up, still having trouble sleeping and Amy wouldn’t cause more fear in her daughter.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, squinting at herself, it was obvious how tired she was. The heavy bags under her eyes. The ‘glow’ that she’d apparently been sporting for the last couple of weeks was gone. And it looked like she’d aged years in the span of just a couple of days. She hadn’t gotten a full night's sleep in days. First too shaken up and worried about her family and friends to be able to fall asleep. And then the nightmares had started. Everytime she closed her eyes, it was the same dream.
Stepping back from the sink, Amy sank down on the edge of of the bathtub, head going into shaking hands, and finally allowed the tears that had been just on the edge of falling to spill down her cheeks.
