where Danny isn't named Danny.
Instead, Maddie and Jack last minute decide to name him William.
People at school mock him by calling him "Inviso-bill", because "no one wants to see you, Fenton".
When he becomes a halfa, he purposely tells people his name is Danny Phantom, inspired by his parents' story of having almost named him Daniel.
Tucker and Sam see how much happier "Billy" looks being "Danny" and stick to the name, almost entirely calling him Danny after a while.
Danny encounters an evil future version of himself, Bill Cipher, and ends up all traumatized by the episode experience.
Afterwards, everytime someone calls him Billy, especially in that mocking way, it reminds him too much of Bill and the entire deal. He starts panicking just hearing the name and soon asks people to call him Danny instead.
Almost no one questions it, assuming by the amount of times they've heard Sam and Tucker call him that it must be his middle name. Danny Phantom is mostly known as just Phantom by now, anyway.
