William Painter (November 20, 1838 – July 15, 1906) Third of seven children, Mr Painter Invented the bottle cap and capping machine, thereby making carbonated beverage production practical (corks tended to pop under the pressure). He subsequently invented  the church-key style bottle opener. His company became the mighty Crown Cork and Seal.
