They've been selling versions of the bullet proof blanket/backpack for years. Cops kill more people every year than legally owned firearms. School shootings aren't increasing, but are getting more media attention. The sale of firearms is already heavily regulated, and has been since 1934. Those companies feed off the fear of mass shootings. They're as bad as the media who glorify the shooters. Yes, it's disgusting that kids kill each other at school. It's also gross to make money off of it.
I 10000% agree that the company/companies selling such equipment are super gross, but I personally don’t think current national regulation of guns is strong enough. There are about a million studies that have concluded that various percentages of guns are sold without a background check. I know that the numbers change a lot as a function of demographics, sample size, and whether the sales are conducted in private or through a company, but the fact is that there are too many ways for too many people to obtain a gun without a proper background check. And to be totally honest, I don’t give a shit that school shootings are no more frequent now than they were before mass media attention. The fact that they happen AT ALL is what bothers me.
I don’t know what the solution is, but I know that the current system isn’t working.
