At a staggering 340 pounds and a Body Mass Index of 42.3, William Howard Taft wasn't just the heaviest president in U.S. history. He was also the "first celebrity weight-loss patient". Like many dieters today, Taft, 6 feet 2 inches tall, lost weight and regained it, fluctuating from more than 350 to 255 pounds. He was 48 when he first contacted Dr. Yorke-Davies, and spent the remaining 25 years of his life corresponding with the doctor and consulting other physicians in a quest to control his weight. William Howard Taft är en av mina favoritpersoner i amerikansk historia. Han var den 27:e presidenten och den 10:e högsta domaren på Högsta Domstolen och han är fortfarande den enda personen som har haft båda jobb. Han var en okej president men det är inte varför han är ihågkommen. Taft är mest känd för att vara fet. Han vägde mer än ett hundra och femtio kilo. Men Taft var så mycket mer än bara en fet man!

Taft sprang för presidenten bara eftersom hans fru som hette Nellie ville vara första damen. Tyvärr var Nellie då sjuk för Tafts hela presidentskap, så hon fick inte göra många av de första damens normala aktiviteter. Taft tyckte inte om eller verkligen bryr sig om att vara president heller. På hans dödsäng sa han att han inte kom ihåg att vara president!

Taft är krediterad med att starta den 7:e omgång sträcka i baseball och traditionen att kasta den första kasten. Han var den första presidenten att använda det ovala kontoret och att ha en presidentsbil. Han var den sista presidenten som hade en ko (som hette Pauline) i Vita Huset och som hade en mustasch.

Tafts administration försökte komma med någonting som sin föregångare Theodore Roosevelts "Teddy Björnar/Bears." De producerade "Billy Pungråttor/Possums." Som du kan föreställa dig, tog de aldrig på.
