Choosing the right FUGU with wonderful Motomi Kumura in Asakasa, Tokyo, Japan. FUGU is pufferfish and was a notorious poisonous fish served raw that could kill you. The trick for Fugu sushi chefs was to leave just a bit of toxins in to have you "tingle" a bit, but not kill you. It used to be in the old days that if 20 people went out for Fugu 1 might die. That was a long time ago, now if you have a restaurant that kills someone, you will be closed immediately (no surprise there!) Also, now in the last decade at least, the toxins are not really part of the "meal" anymore... meaning now it is more cool to have it based on the history, but the "buzz" and the huge risk, are far lesser. Sorry Homer Simpson.... "Fugu Me" just does not have the meaning it used to. ⠀ ⠀ Once COVID lifts, I hope to host my A MAN A PLAN JAPAN show again sometime (maybe even at the New Hollywood Theatre) and hope you will come.⠀ ⠀ Thanks so much to Motomi for showing me some of the wonders of this area! Just loved it.⠀ ⠀ #Japan #amanaplanjapan #hollywoodtheatre @hollywoodtheatre #williamjans #fugu #pufferfish #dangerousfood #dangerous (at Asakusa Market Tokyo) https://www.instagram.com/p/CId6R-vhlS_/?igshid=85qxehf7ct17
