The Library of Lost Dollhouses by Elise Hooper

Dollhouses and miniatures are some of my favorite things as well as dollhouses, especially antiques. Therefore when I saw this book, I knew immediately that I had to read it. I was intrigued and began my reading of this eagerly. 

The writing was easy to read, I loved the history and how-to of dollhouse building, I found the plot engaging, but the characters were a bit too dull for my tastes. The story wasn’t as entracing as I could have wished for. Ultimately, I was left with more questions than answers and I wanted more from this. 

Recommended with the caveat that while this reader definitely enjoyed it, I was left wanting more.

Let Us March On: A Novel by Shara Moon 

US pub date - 2/4/25

I love when what I read educates - it’s one of the many reasons I very much enjoy historical fiction, particularly historical fiction about real people. 

Let Us March On was a five star read for me, without a doubt. 

Ms Moon has beautifully crafted a debut novel that will engage readers while teaching about the life of the extraordinary Lizzie McDuffie (whom I knew nothing about prior to my reading). 

An excellent story, and one I recommend.

Christmas with the Queen: A Novel by Hazel Gaynor, Heather Webb

The second I saw this, I requested it and I will admit that the first reason I wanted to reaI this was because of the late Queen. I’m the person who, the second I see a new royal or royal adjacent historical fiction book, I want to read it. Regardless of the secondary voice/story, if we’re talking the adjacent novels.  

I was fortunate enough to have the wonderful souls over at William Morrow Paperbacks approve my for this, and I literally squealed in delight when I got the approval email. But… I didn’t read it right away. Why, you may ask? Well, I’ve been reading a lot, and I’ve had a lot of stories that, though I enjoyed, I wasn’t feeling excited about. So, I didn’t want to start this when reading wasn’t as soul satisfying / life affirmingly amazing and awesome as it usually is (I hope you 

understand what I mean by that). 

After finishing a debut historical romance that was super enjoyable and really put me back into being able to really get into a new book, I started this. And can I tell you, that by the end of Queen Elizabeth’s pre-chapter 1 section, I was hooked. 

By the time I finished Jack’s first chapter, I was even more invested. 

Olive’s chapter, even more. 

And a second chance romance? Squee! It just keeps getting better!

I loved this one. Absolutely loved it. This is one I’ll get for my own audiobook collection.

The Third Wife of Faraday House: A Novel by B.R. Myers

US pub date - 8/20/24

The Third Wife of Faraday House was a fun read -

*gothic mystery

*low key tension that builds

*darkly atmospheric 

I found this paranormal thriller gripping and exciting, to say the least. I was kept wondering right up til the end. 

Enjoyable and recommended.

The Windsor Conspiracy: A Novel of the Crown, a Conspiracy, and the Duchess of Windsor by Georgie Blalock

Told from the point of Wallis’s personal secretary, Amelia, Wallis’s cousin who is a destitute widow (her character was based on numerous personal secretaries). Written starting at the time shortly before the marriage of David and Wallis took place, there’s history, drama, enjoyable scenery, fashion, unlikeable characters (David and Wallis), and espionage.

I find British royal history fascinating, and after being invited to read The Windsor Conspiracy - that cover and the synopsis decided me - I downloaded this and it pulled me right in. Ms Blalock obviously put a lot of time into research for this story and the result is terrific historical fiction that’s well written and engaging.
