Compelling, steamy, obsessive, and toxic, *Helpless* kept my attention throughout while taking me on its rollercoaster of twists and turns, until I barely knew which way was up. I couldn’t put this down, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages.Â

Most Ardently Yours by Freya Sampson

I’m having a difficult time with this review because while I really enjoyed Darcy in London 2026 and Mrs Attala I didn’t like Zoe (I appreciate character development and growth but saw none and much of Zoe’s behavior was problematic to me) and I didn’t love the romance in this because I just didn’t get it; it just seemed too far fetched - the romance between the thwarted writer and the bookseller, not anything else.Â
A few days later and I find I’ve rather softened in my original thoughts; I’m still not convinced by the romance but this was otherwise so fun, I would recommend Most Ardently Yours.Â

Behind White Picket Fences by Christine GundersonÂ

As a retired homeschool mom the homeschooling and reasons behind the decision really interested me. And I wasn’t disappointed.Â
This was a smart, quick, very fun novel. The side characters give this story a terrific personality and though I did need to will my suspension of disbelief into place in spots, I really did enjoy *Between White Picket Fences* and will definitely read this author in the future.

No Ordinary June: A Sweet Regency Romance (The Fairmonts, #1) by L. N. Jacobs

A charming Regency romance with yearninnnng galore.
June Fairmont’s family is one of the true gems of the book, and the wonderful slow-burn drawn out with witty banter between June and Gregory was just what I needed. Gregory was a treat of a character.
I loved the Fairmont family (especially January) and their interactions. I really enjoyed the illustrations and how every loose end was tied up at the end. I would definitely read further books by L. N. Jacobs, and would love to read more about the Fairmont family.

Marion: A Novel by Leah Rowan

Hitchcock fan here and I really wanted to read a Pyscho reimagining with Marion coming out on top.
Marion is the reimagining I wanted. Family love, loyalty, and twists abound. Feminist rage and murder kept me turning the pages and I read this in one day. I’m looking forward to listening to this on audiobook and reading more by Ms Rowan.
An excellent debut and it’s a recommendation from me.

The Final Target by Nora Roberts

I’ve been reading Nora Roberts since junior high when Heather Bennett recommended her copy of Public Secrets and I’ve been hooked ever since, 42 years later and I got to read an early copy of The Final Target and it was an extremely fun and enjoyable read. I enjoyed the main character, Arden, a lot; I found her interesting, likeable, and sympathetic. I love how well Ms Roberts writes dogs (as with Stephen King’s, I always adore Nora Roberts’s fictional dogs), her friends and family, the actual love interest, his wonderful grandpa. They’re people you like.
Add in the unhinged stalker (and a Nora Robert’s bad guy isn’t something to be missed) and a ton of everything going on while you’re trying to build a new community in a new place, The Final Target was another bulls-eye read for me as it brought me from Ohio to Oregon and took me away from world worries for a while.
I had a great time reading this, full recommendation from me and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🙂

Maybe Marilyn: A Novel by Lois Cahall

A fantastical dandelion’s wish of a concert, which I was taken by the appeal of, and wish this is what had happened. But the execution of the story never landed for me.

It’s Hard to be an Animal by Robert Isaacs

I adored this Dr. Dolittle-esque debut and all it’s characters. I knew immediately that I wanted to read this and was so gratified by this wonderful world that Robert Isaacs created. Henry, Molly, Yaryk, Gracie, the betta fish, everything.
This was one of the most unique and enjoyable stories I’ve read.

Get on Board! Interviews with The Soul Train Dancers 1971-1975 by Stephen McMillian

What a terrific trip down memory lane! I remember being a little girl and watching Soul Train, and adoring the dancers who all seemed so effortlessly cool.
The research the author underwent shows and the chapters each let us learn about a dfifferent dancer, their early lives and now. A very enjoyable read.
I would recommend this to every fan of the show and for anyone who remembers watching this show on Saturdays.

The Last of the Old Breed: An Oral History of the Final Marines from World War II by Scott Davis

I’ll admit that I wanted to read this book for multiple reasons. History and not forgetting its starkness, admiration of the Marines, and for the personal because my beloved grandfather was a Marine in the South Pacific in WWII. Who is no longer here, and who never once, within my hearing, spoke about any of his experiences.
The stories within this book are terrifying, heartbreaking, extremely important and should never be forgotten.
I was impressed by the author’s research and writing. Recommended.
