“Just because you grew up in a suburban cul-de-sac doesn’t make you that type. I think you know you’re more than that, Nancy Wheeler.”
𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐌𝐈𝐊𝐄 & 𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐘. @willnotmiss
𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐃𝐀𝐘 was around the corner. Did he even want to attend and walk the stage? Even if he wanted to, Mike didn’t think he could. As if he could just turn on some 𝐁𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐓 smile and act like everything was fine. As if he could pretend as though he was happy when he was anything but. In fact, the sadness he felt threatened to consume him. It was overwhelming to the point it made him feel psychically 𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐊 to his stomach. He couldn’t even bear being at home anymore, the persistent questions his parents asked too much to handle— leading to where he sat now, occupying a lonely bench further in town.
He still didn’t totally understand why Eleven had done what she did— why she’d made that decision 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐓 him. Well, he supposed he did in a way.. but that didn’t mean he had to accept it. And he still didn’t, a part of him refusing to believe she was really dead.
Staring up at the sky from where he sat, Mike attempted to envision where she could possibly be now if she’d made it out alive.. that was until the space beside him was suddenly occupied, Mike spying a nest of curls from his peripheral. 𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐘.
“..Let me guess. Mom sent you to drag my sorry ass home ‘cause she’s scared I’m gonna do something stupid?” Either that, or Nancy had sought him out on her own accord. Regardless, Mike refused to look at her, gaze remained upcast to the heavens above in a futile attempt to hide the 𝐒𝐀𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 in his eyes.

some would say she was there too much with how often max spent at the wheeler household. but to her , even after normalcy had set in and the world began to move forward once more , it was the one place max felt most at home. in fact , it had become her home. the loss of her own home , the loss of her mother , had left her floating between friends houses for the first weeks. sleeping on couches or floors — more often than not in the wheeler basement to be precise. but when karen caught wind, max was offered reprieve. offered to be apart of the family that had saved her in more ways than she could ever fathom to repay.
an awareness that only grew as the last of few boxes max had moved over into nancy's old bedroom from what remained of her old home sat at her feet. such few things had survived the fracture. thankfully the trailer remained intact when she went with steve , lucas , and dustin to gather things. but the near two years of neglect left far and few things salvageable.
picking up the walkman at the top of the box , there is no stopping the grow of a smile to appear. mind swimming in memory's that no longer stung as they once did. peering over at the eldest wheeler across from her , max merely tossed the walkman onto the mattress. “ i don't think i'll need that much anymore , huh. ”
the whole thing was messed up. beyond messed up. they'd been so close to doing exactly what they'd came here for and still managed to miss the mark by a god damn mile. sure they'd learned some new stuff that they hadn't understood before, but did it even matter? Holly was still being held prisoner but that freak. and they had still been completely useless standing there staring at the place where she had been.
bumping her shoulder ever so slightly, there's a moment that he considers asking if @willnotmiss was okay. asking if she needed anything. but he knows that she's not. and there's nothing that he can do about it at all. so he settles on something else. "I dunno if there's a shampoo in the world that's going to get this out of your hair, wheeler."

everyone told her , time and time again , it was not her fault. that there was nothing max could have done to get holly out. but the guilt of knowing she was still there , still trapped in camazotz . . . it gnawed at her every second that passed. it was that very soul eating burden that pushed her to the near empty sitting area after catching sight of the eldest wheeler headed that way. ❛ i'm sorry. ❜ the words fell before max could properly figure what , or how , she was going to approach it. clearly the aspect of her speaking before thinking remained intact. ❛ about holly. if i would've known — ❜
argyle had been trying his best not to put too much thought into what happened with nancy. it had been a whim, in the middle of whatever pissing contests was happening with steve and jonathan. steve would say something that would get under jonathan's skin, jonathan would lash out, and steve would play it cool that he just saw nancy as a friend. he didn't know what the intentions were, but he knew it was frustrating nancy. and when she exploded one night, he had taken the blow for it as an outside party. and he had let her take out her frustrations by grabbing him by the fact and kissing him in a way that had his own dazed mind spinning.
the guilt was eating away at him though. nancy was still his best buddy's girl at the end of the day, though it seemed that their relationship was strained and complex. one night when @willnotmiss was over and hanging out at the byers', argyle was out on the back patio, kicked back and enjoying a joint when he heard the back door.
he glanced over and saw nancy stepping out, a small smile tugging at his lips. " come out here to enjoy the breeze too? " he murmured before bringing his joint up to his lips to take another slow drag in.
