okay so I know we've kind of overlooked willow on the album as the straightest song, but I think we might be wrong

this definitely falls under me wanting to make this not straight but I had an idea so here goes:

"I'm begging for you to take my hand

Wreck my plans, that's my man"

why would a man taking her hand wreck any plans? being with a man is what everyone expects and wants of her so really it would play INTO plans rather than wreck them. a woman taking her hand tho is a different story, that would totally wreck all plans, especially the ones they have carefully constructed for years with bearding. so what if the "that's my man" actually plays into heteronormativity and how gay couples are asked who the man is, it's her way of saying "you all want me to be with a man, well this is my man"

a mythical thing because that's how queer people feel at first and maybe even years later feel about being queer and having a partner and maybe family. like it's something you only see online but it doesn't feel like something that could actually happen to you, because it's not the 'norm' we are taught and shown

this was the line that first got me thinking, because why would she have to cheat to get a man? she is damn taylor swift she could have just about anyone and especially men. but being with a woman, maybe even someone who is also in the public eye and is in the closet, it wouldn't be possible without cheating on their "boyfriends" but she would do it anyway because being with that person would feel like winning

we agree this is about bearding right?

maybe it was written the way it is to seem straight, to have this opening set the tone for the album as about men because this is after all the narrative she wants the public to see. which I think worked quite well because the amount of "my man" actually put a lot of people off from looking into it further because it seemed rather obvious, but this is my two cents about why I think willow isn't as straight as it might seem
