Angel - L.A. Weatherly
“The only good angel is a dead angel.”
In this trilogy, consisting of Angel Burn, Angel Fire and Angel Fever, the world has been flooded with angels. Only they aren’t heavenly creatures that humans think they are: they are predators that use the humankind as food, consuming their energy.
Williw Fields is sixteen years old, and is fairly certain that she is a normal girl. Sure, she likes mechanics and she is a psychic, but that’s not that weird right? She lives a normal live, goes to high school and skips as much as possible. But her normal life disappears the moment that she gives a reading to Beth, a girl from her school. By reading Beth, she discovers that angels are real, and that they are far from kind. In a desperate attempt to show Beth that the angels are bad, she becomes the most-searched terrorist in the United States. Because there is a reason that Willow is a psychic, and that reason makes her dangerous to all angels: she’s a halfangel, a creature that should not even be able to exist.
Helped by Alex Kylar, an assassin and Angel Killer, she tries to find a way to get rid of all the angels and save her world.
I think that ‘bad angels’ is a really good concept. Some parts don’t always add up, but the backstory is really tight and detailed. And it does not get boring after a while, like a lot of adventure stories tend to become. There is no annoying pattern of failing - getting caught - escaping - succeeding in the end. Not all the ideas of the angels work out, and not every action of Willow and Alex succeeds. And the author never forgets that her two main characters are two teenagers, who don’t want to bear the burden of having to save their world, which makes the story really believable.
The author gives the reader a more general view of all the events, by entering chapter from the point of view of a lot of different characters. This grants the reader more knowledge, but just not enough to get the full picture. It’s really nice reading like this, because you know what is going to happen to the characters before they do, but then something happens that none of you saw coming.
If you’re into fantasy and adventure, then I really recommend these books!
