LATTE ART WITH WILMAX How to create a pattern in your coffee cup We are already quite familiar with the custom of getting a latte art in our coffee cup when ordering from a nice coffee-shop. Surely making a person’s portrait or a complex animal image from latte foam is top class. But it’s quite possible to master simpler patterns at home, for example a leaf. Begin with pouring some espresso to a cup. You can use either coffee machine or cezve to make the espresso shot. Coffee should be rather thick. To make the pattern more pronounced sprinkle some cocoa powder on top of coffee. Now you need to add steamed milk. Professionals use special pitcher to do so, but at home you can take a regular creamer that has a pout. Milk should be whipped and not too foamy. Foamy milk will not work in this case. The best temperature for milk is 40-45 degrees; you can use a whipping whisk to prepare it. Start pouring milk near cup edge and continue pouring wiggling creamer from side to side while moving to the opposite edge of the cup. Use just your wrist to do so. As a result you should see a zigzag pattern in your cup. Now make a leaf: lift the creamer and pour milk crossing over the zigzag. Professionals do such a pattern swiftly, while a beginner might also need a toothpick or a small skewer to finish the drawing. Dip it in coffee and use as you would a pencil. There is another way to make a drawing in your coffee cup, use a stencil to do it. Cut a pattern in a piece of paper or paperboard, hold close to coffee surface, sprinkle grated chocolate over the stencil and you are done. Feel like an artist and surprise your guests or your special someone!
