          𝐈𝐓'𝐒   𝐍𝐎𝐓   𝐔𝐍𝐔𝐒𝐔𝐀𝐋   𝐅𝐎𝐑   𝐇𝐈𝐌   𝐓𝐎   𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐙   𝐈𝐍  ,        in   a   timely   manner   ( of course )   ,     unto   some   underhanded   human   activities .     though   he   has   his   moments   of   appreciating   the   existence   of   these   beings  ,     one   cannot   help   but   note   some   of   the   more   despicable   things   that    they   get   up   to .      𝐇𝐈𝐒   𝐆𝐀𝐙𝐄   𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐒   𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍   𝐓𝐇𝐄   𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆   𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋  ,     she’s   somewhere   between   belonging   and   other - worldly .     much   like   himself .     but   she’s   afraid  ,    and   rightly   so .     

          he   crouches   before   her   ----   determined   at   least   to   win   in   her   a   sense   of   calm  ,        𝐈𝐅   𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆   𝐄𝐋𝐒𝐄 .     ❝     it’s   okay .        ❞        he   tells   her .     his   voice   is   gentle  ,     yet   stern .     assured   that    EVERYTHING   IS   FINE .     ❝     i   won’t   hurt   you .        ❞       @wiltpetals​

“We can’t-- We cannot go there...” Evgeni begins, attempting to put his foot down. It wasn’t like the seafood place wasn’t good...they had nice crab cakes and just thinking about them made him salivate. And yet... “I do not like that place...the lobsters...they are...there in the tank. Looking at me! They know I wish to order them! I will be the cause of their death! It is too morbid-- can we please go to the place where they...they throw peanut shells on floor? I can handle peanut shells better than sad lobsters...”

“you, uh - you hungry or anything?” dex offers, running a hand through his hair. it sticks up at wild angles - just as well, it fits his current feeling. frazzled. “i’ve got some pizza, i think there’s some cereal? i don’t have any milk, though.” he sighs. what does he even feed a child? his child? “did your mom tell you much about me, or-?”

    IT’S  A  PRICKLE  ON THE  BACK  OF HIS NECK,   a  boulder  at the  base  of his  throat  as he  feels  the  scissors  dully   cut  his  hair.    it’s  funny how this is the   first  time  in  years  he feels  himself  almost  wanting  to  cry ?   but  no,  it wasn’t  because of the  hair,  itself  --   it  reminds him  too much  of when he went into the  military.   (  neck prickling with  static. )  he still remembers the feel of the  buzzer  against his  skull.    for a  second,   he  sits  there  with  loren  resting  her head  on  his  shoulder  :    and  then,   snake  re - animates,  letting  out a  long  exhale  through  terse  lips.    toughen  up  and  keep  going.  

  he  shifts,  dismissing  her  affection,   looking   in the  mirror a  second  --  running  fingers  through  hair  to  familiarize.    he  doesn’t  respond  to  her a  long  time.     “  ...   whatever.  “   he  tells  her,   which,   in  plissken - terms,   meant  sure.     “  --     i’m  gonna  go have a  smoke  first.  “    maybe nicotine  will  help him  stop feeling like his  consciousness  is  floating  away.

It was a wonderful fall, landing on a rosebed. Seeing the petals flying around me... Smiling, no worries on my mind, no fears...

For a moment, a small moment, I was happy...

But, no.

I think roses are the most wonderful flowers in the world but, until now, I’ve only ever gotten thorns
