      “   COME  ON.    OUT  THE  BACK  WAY     --    DONT  wanna  risk bein’ seen with the  two   of   you.  “    snake  remarks,  rationally :    he  gestures a hand  for  them  to  follow  along,   and  begins  to  walk,   tamping out another  cigarette  from  the  case  and  offering  it to  fire  wordlessly.     he  sure looked tough as nails,    but he  wasn’t always  against  sharing a  little  bit.    when  he opened the  door,   cold  wind  rushed  into  his  face ,   and instinctively  he  pulled up the  collar  of his  jacket.      a  little  more  walking,   a  few  twists  and  turns,  and they found themselves  in a  quiet  alley  between   buildings :   narrow  and private.    by the time they  got  there,   he’d  smoked the  cigarette ;   he  tossed it,   stamped  on it,   and  lit  another  one.

She didn’t want to say they needed protection, but he looked like he knew what he was talking about. And if he dies… Well, then that’s one other body on the trail to Maine. She didn’t think Hannah would very much like another dead friend, another Ethan… She looked down at Hannah, who was beaming up at Snake. “What do you say, Banana? You want Mr. Plissken to come with us?” Hannah nodded. “Okay, deal. But I drive.”

Next thing they knew, the three of them were in the car together. Before Snake could get in the front passenger seat, Hannah caught his sleeve with his small hand, she wanted him to sit with her in the back, get to know her new friend. She was looking at him intently, still staring, but there was a brightness in her eyes now. A curiosity about this man, Snake Plissken, the one eyed man who decided to come with them, protect them. 

The car was a beat up old thing, but it was reliable, it got them this far after all. “Why Snake?” Hannah asked, poking his belly, right where his tattoo is.  “Hannah, don’t poke him, you don’t know where he’s been… Neither do I for that matter, you said you had a resume, right?”

        SOMETIMES  YOU WAKE  UP FROM A NAP   and  everything  changes. these new  travel partners  were  certainly  odd  ...   especially the younger  one. ( it had been years since someone had looked at him  and hadn’t seen a  legitimate  threat,    something to  be  afraid  of,    a  rabid  dog  with  its  teeth bared  threateningly.     someone  who  looked at him  like they saw  who he was  underneath  the  skin    ...      and  snake didn’t  like  it.    it  put  him  in a headspace that  was    ...    distracting and  unpleasant,  to say the least. )   nonetheless,  snake  sat  in back with the  kid,    because  he wasn’t  the keenest  at  conversing  with the  elder  any more with the  younger.     for  a handful of  minutes,   he sat with his head turned out the  window,    smoking the cigarette in  its  entirely  before  flicking  it  carelessly  out onto the  road.  

   then,   he  felt  a poke  against his stomach and  turned his  head.    he met hannah’s  gaze a  long  moment,    and  then  explained in his  gruff,  quiet  voice :   “  had  to  army - crawl  in the military.  “    which  was  certainly  leaving out  the bulk of  reasons  behind the  name.    ( he thought it odd she should  poke the tattoo along with the  inquiry.   weird kid. )    “ ‘s  a long time ago.   just stuck.  “

   turning to  meet  lex’s  gaze in the  mirror,    he  remarked  dryly,    “  yeah.  survived  this  long  in  this  shit -  scape  since   world war   iii ,   and  intending to stay that  way.    that’s  all that  matters.  “

   A  SMALL  GLARE  HARDENS  ALREADY - UNHAPPY   expression ,  his furrowed  brows  and  glinting  blue  eye  almost  saying  :   forgive me for not being more creative after  just  getting the  shit  socked out of me !   this was why he  hated working  with  these   ...     superhero  types .   it wasn’t  much different  from  actually  being  on the  criminals  side  :   always  some  holier than thou   bullshit  around the  corner,   always  walking on  eggshells .     he  stood  a  minute,    watching the two of  them  converse ,   before  remarking  ( more to himself  than  anything )   &  fishing  his  cigarette  pack  out  of  his  inner  pocket  :    “   still  standin’  here,   ladies.  “

 as  the  green  one,   fire,   turned  to  him,  he  lit the cigarette   (  wondering if he could have just offered it to  her  to light   /    not in the mood for a more thorough  ass kicking than was  necessary ),   brow  quirking  as  he  listened.   “  snake,   “   he  said  simply :   i’ve got a  dumbass  one - word  name just like the two of  you.   “  got  paid  by  your   ...    league ,   to  recover info.     so,   i  did.    “     looking   past   beatriz   at  tora,     snake  continued  ( as if he couldn’t give less of a damn about these affairs ),   “  ...   might   wanna  discuss it  someplace a little more private.   “
