Warm up sketch because I haven’t done much art lately. I really love doing portraits, there’s something so magical about that moment when suddenly there’s depth and light and it’s not just a flat piece of paper (or screen). As a newish artist the first time I saw a portrait come to life was such a special moment for me.

It is a consistent slap in the face to me that Shaw’s stupid big hairy body can slide out of my pencil so easily but I want to draw LADIES

I think maybe the issue is I approach Shaw’s body from just a more neutral artistic perspective and don’t have the same anxieties around it that I do about drawing women? Or because since he’s been my loudest muse since 2019, he’s gotten the most art, so my hand is more “trained” in the shapes for him. There’s also a lot more room for error in his body since it’s so large and exaggerated; I find that mistakes are more obvious when I draw smaller and/or more realistically proportional people.
