let’s be positive; 11x17

Wow. I was not expecting to get my feelings thrown around that much within one episode, but we got both Winchesters “dying,” clear parallels between Corbin x Michelle and the Winchesters, plus a Cas mention? Let’s get talking, people! 

First off, we open with Sam getting shot. That’s going to clearly set a vibe for an entire episode, and I knew that we were going to get our feelings tossed around like a boat in the ocean during a typhoon. I was not wrong. Sam’s injury? Yeah, not really comparable to his actually “dying,” and then Dean going under just to talk Billie into bringing him back, oNLY FOR SAM NOT TO BE REALLY DEAD. YIKES. 

I actually liked that the focus wasn’t just on Sam and Dean this episode. We got a look into a relationship that paralleled theirs: Corbin and Michelle. Corbin parallels Dean, and Michelle parallels Sam. Corbin loves Michelle, this is clear. She’s everything, and there is no way that Corbin would let her die because someone else is holding him back from saving his wife. Sound familiar? We’ve witnessed this time and time again with Dean. There is nothing that he would put in front of his brother. We’ve watched Dean tear heaven and hell apart for Sam, just like Corbin would do anything to save Michelle. On the flip though, we’ve also got Sam paralleling Michelle. When Corbin suggested that they leave Sam behind, she refused. These are the guys who saved their lives after all, and they can’t make it out there alone. This is a very Sam like attitude, IMO. Sam wouldn’t willingly leave behind a person who was slowing them down either. 

There is a big BUT in this though. From what I’ve written above, you may assume that I believe that Sam is more willing to let Dean go and move on with his life if Dean was the one who died. Not exactly! Look at Michelle. When Dean talks to her at the end of the episode, she is lost, wandering. Corbin was the love of her life. Dean tells her that things will get better, and that she will move on, but she doubts that. How can she possibly go back to the person she was without Corbin? How will her life ever be full again? I also feel like this is a very Sam like response. When Dean disappeared to Purgatory, Sam ran. From there, we all know the tale: Sam ended up accidentally hitting a dog, found Amelia, and lived the apple pie life right? But like Michelle, I feel like there Sam was floating during his time with Amelia. He didn’t feel complete without his brother, just like Michelle doesn’t feel complete without Corbin now. It’s a very interesting look into codependency, and I found it interesting that there was a little bit of a codependent vibe going on between Corbin and Michelle, which paralleled the Winchesters nicely. 

This is also the THIRD episode we’ve gotten Sam assuring Dean that they will get Cas back, and I am so pleased that they are proving that the boys do care about Cas and do not just view him as a tool (achem, like the Cas bashers try to argue.) 

Tiny thing, but I want the leather jacket that lady werewolf was wearing, not gonna lie.

I LOVE BILLIE THE REAPER. I love her attitude on not giving the Winchesters second chances. I love the fact that Billie is sticking to what she said and isn’t trying to deal like all the other monsters. I love the fact that she told it like it was: while Dean claims bringing Sam back is for the greater good, he’s lying. Dean just can’t imagine living without his brother, and she’s determined to do her job and not get involved. Never leave, Billie. I like you. 

Also, I liked the attention to wardrobe in this episode. Dean’s “red shirt of bad decisions” came out to play, and I liked that. Dean wore it a lot during his time with the MOC, and was tied in with him causing chaos. Dean’s decisions in this episode weren’t great, IMO. I liked that they used the shirt as a way to show that Dean’s decisions are not good, that his codependency with Sam is unhealthy, and that when he wears the shirt, prepare for a wild episode, lol. 

Overall, it was very tough to watch at times, because while I enjoy a little injured!Winchesters, this was a little over the top. Can I wrap them up in blankets and give them lots of love now? Thank. 

Next week, we’ve got all the big bads back! Amara, Crowley, Casifer, and lots of action going on. It will be awesome, people!

let’s be positive; 11x15

Okay, OKAY. What I first thought would only be monster of the week turned into one of the most important myth arc episodes so far. Let’s get to it!

Right from the get-go, we see Dean with papers piled up around him. It’s clear that finding information about not only the Darkness, but putting Lucifer back in the cage and saving Cas is a big for the Winchesters right now. People were worried that they would go off and not mention Cas at all, but Cas was one of the biggest parts of this episode. Three (?) times Dean and Sam talk about saving him, about how Cas might not want to be saved (which Dean takes down immediately because he is in deep denial about Cas’s decisions), plus we got that lovely ‘keep grinding’ line from Dean at the end of the episode. It is clear that the Winchesters are putting Cas as their priority, and Dean is beyond determined to save Cas, no matter what. 

Fanboy!Dean was GREAT. If I met Jensen in real life, I’m pretty positive that would be my exact reaction. 

Sam’s first crush being Rio was also a nice nod to their childhoods. Moving around a lot, it would probably be difficult to develop a crush on someone his own age, so he goes for the beautiful wresting manager instead. (Don’t worry, Sam. My first crush was on Ash Ketchum from Pokemon when I was in the first grade. Talk about unattainable!) 

Dean pretending to be a wrestler was TOO FUNNY. Real smooth, Dean. 

 (I’m very sorry if you are not a fan of the bi!Dean headcanon, but I couldn’t leave this be). Anyone notice how Dean and Sam acted around Gunner and Rio? It was pretty identical with Sam and Dean acting all flustered, but Rio is Sam’s first crush and Gunner is...????? 

The wrestling match that Sam and Dean got to watch was really wonderful. We don’t get to watch these boys happy enough, and I’m glad they got a bit of fun before they needed to focus on another case. 

I didn’t call Gunnar working with a crossroads demon. Did I think that something was up? Yeah, but I thought he was getting drugs or something like that. That was a nice plot, because we haven’t really dealt with lower level demons and the hellhounds for a couple of seasons, if I remember correctly. 

Also, Lucifer fighting Crowley for the Hand of God was another good way to bring the myth arc forward while Sam and Dean were working on a case. I was worried that we wouldn’t see Casifer or Crowley again until 11x17, but now that I know we only need to go 11x16 without them I’m very glad. Even though I enjoy monster of the week episodes, I miss my other two boys when they’re not around. 

Their interactions together I found very wonderful, again. Misha and Mark’s chemistry is underrated, tbh.

 That “are things getting phallic in here” line was golden, and Crowley using the Hand of God is wonderfully ironic. 

Finally, closing up the episode with Gunnar being a mirror to Dean was actually really nice. Dean’s looked up to Gunnar ever since he was a child, and thinks that he is a hero. However, one of the last things Gunnar says is that he looks in the mirror and hates what he finds there. Sound familiar? A line very close to that one was used to describe Dean back in s9, and there’s been scenes where Dean breaks a mirror when he finds himself looking back at him. Gunnar doesn’t think that he is good, but Dean thinks otherwise. Now we just need someone to convince Dean that he is good, even though he think’s he’s not. 

After the hiatus, it looks like a lot is going to happen to our characters. The promo was filled with images that I couldn’t really figure out what was going on, besides Amara back and possibly Mark Pellegrino’s Lucifer knocking Crowley on the head it looked like? We could be getting our Cas back in 11x17, and if that’s the case I will be pleased. I love Lucifer!Cas because Misha is great at playing him, but I want Cas to be himself again too. I guess we’re gonna need to find out if our boys can keep grinding and get everything back to normal again.

let’s be positive: 11x10-11x11

OMGGGGGGGG. I didn’t get to make a post last week about 11x10, so I will add it in here with my recap/favorite parts from 11x11. 

11x10: 

There was a ton I loved about this episode. Sam in the Cage with Lucifer? Billie the Reaper is back and reading comics like a boss? Dean going back to hell to save Sam? CAS BABYING DEAN WHEN HE GETS SICK FROM THE SMITING?! BRILLIANT. 

Mark Pellegrino was brilliant as Lucifer. It is like no time has passed at all, and he picked up the character right where he left off. 

Going through the old “failures” of Sam was nOT COOL, LUCI. Beside the fact that it could be argued that these are not failures at all, but times of strength, nobody talks bad about my tiny son. NOT EVEN AN ANGEL OF THE LORD. 

Unpopular opinion, but Ambriel was really adorable and I loved her glasses (until she told Cas he was expendable, because HE IS NOT.)

“My brother always had horrible taste in men.” Enough said. 

The fight in the Cage was amazing. Sam, Dean, and Cas all fought valiantly, but alas, Cas still says ‘yes’ to Lucifer and becomes a vessel. FEELINGS. 

Rowena, as always, was my perfect witch queen. Just too bad that she got, y’know, ended by Lucifer. NOT OKAY. 

Everyone’s acting was top notch, but special applause for Misha for taking on Mark’s mannerisms perfectly. 

A very good episode overall. I just wish that Rowena got to live :(

11x11: 

EVERYTHING. ROBBIE THOMPSON IS THE KING OF THE WRITING ROOM AND DESERVES A TON OF AWARDS FOR THIS EPISODE

First off, we get transported to Ireland which is one of my fave places in the world. It looks beautiful and I love their accents, okay? A woman comes forward and banishes the banshee before it can take her daughter, and therefore begins a line of ladies kicking tail in this episode. 

Mildred was too funny and her comments were absolutely brilliant. Hitting on Dean was too hilarious and telling Eileen that she’s too old to climb a tree got me laughing. It was good comic relief from the heavy parts of the episode. 

A DEAF CHARACTER WHO HUNTS, AND HER DEAFNESS ISN’T THE FOCUS. One of the biggest problems in TV is that a disabled character only revolves around their disability, but this was not the case with Eileen. She was a trained hunter, and deafness was only one of the many things they touched on about her. Once it was established, it wasn’t really brought up again besides for when necessary (aka, explaining how the banshee attacked her and her parents as a child and that’s how Eileen lost her hearing and Mildred asking to practice signing with her.)

Lucifer trying to play Cas was actually really interesting. At first, he’s terrible at it. His voice is too inflected and he needs to think about fooling people. Even after the fact, he wasn’t perfect and it is known that Dean didn’t exactly buy the act. Lucifer needs to be glad that Sam just wrote it off and got Dean to write it off too, because I feel like Dean wouldn’t have left it alone until he knew for sure otherwise. 

DEAN AND CAS TALKING ABOUT DEAN’S CONNECTION TO AMARA. I also found this interesting. Dean admits that the connection between them terrifies him, because he was indeed attracted to her. Romantic or not, this is very intriguing. Think about it. Amara is the epitome of the Mark. Dean wore that damned Mark on his arm for a season and a half. It’s off his arm, but he continues to be connected to it. Amara’s got a little bit of control over him, but not total control. I think this will come into play later with Dean finally being able to break the connection for good, but I don’t know what will happen first. 

LADIES. LADIES LADIES LADIES. Ladies were the real heroes of this episode. Eileen’s mom traps the banshee when she was a baby. Mildred traps it again, and Eileen takes it out for good.  The boys had nothing to do with it, besides painting on the sigils and getting the golden blades, but even then Eileen was the one who knew about the sigils in the first place. 

Robbie never disappoints, ever. I love his episodes and I loved this one.

We get lots of women next week, too! Jody, Alex, and Claire are back and it is gonna be GREAT.

let’s be positive: 11x01-11x09

*awkwardly comes to the party late*

Hi, everyone! I’m very sorry for my absence on this blog. The only thing I’ve had time to do lately is keep my queue filled, and even that has failed on a few days. Essentially, I do not have as much time for Tumblr as I used to as a student. These past months were filled with big life changes (surgery, new job, new car, looking at possibly getting a master’s degree, ect.) and Tumblr fell to the background. I work nights at a library, and during the day I’m usually catching up on house things I need to do. Therefore, that’s why I haven’t posted any ‘let’s be positive’ posts so far. 

That being said, I’m so glad that I get to post one now! I’ve been so impressed with this season, and there hasn’t been one episode that I haven’t enjoyed on some level (there, of course, have been some episodes that are stronger than others, but I think overall this season has been amazing, and the best one since s8.) 

Therefore, let’s do a list of things that I’m loving about the first nine episode of s11: 

Amara: When they first announced Amara, I have to admit that I just assumed she’d be another lady villain like Abaddon or Ruby who was going to sassy, evil, and of course, fabulous. I am very pleased that she’s very different from the other lady villains we’ve gotten in the past. She’s not particularly good or evil; she’s amoral, in a way. She’s older than time itself and has been contained for years, and now that she’s free, she wants everything, as stated in 11x09. She’s causing chaos to grab God’s attention, and even first appeared as a baby to learn everything she could about humanity. She’s terrifying, because there is not right and wrong to her. She also has a very dubious control over Dean, one that is stronger than anyone could’ve predicted. It’s almost like Dean is in a trance around her. I read a post today about how the spell Rowena, Cas, and Sam did back in 10x23 backfired because Dean is under the control of the Mark now more than ever. Amara is the epitome of the Mark, and she’s the one calling shots for him now. I’m intrigued of where this will go.

Sam’s visions: Now that it’s been revealed that Sam’s visions came from Lucifer and not God, I’m more intrigued than ever. Why was Lucifer talking to Sam? Why now? There’s a lot of unanswered questions there, and now I’m wondering if the visions that aren’t of the Cage are from Lucifer too, or is it someone else? Is it God? Michael? Or did Lucifer give him those visions, too? We don’t know, and I can’t wait to find out. 

Cas in the bunker: This is what I’ve wanted for the longest time. Cas is watching Netflix! He’s being taken care of by the brothers! He’s in a blanket and recovering! Those episodes were brilliant, and I also like that they are touching on Cas’s PTSD after being affected by Rowena’s spell and Dean’s actions against him in 10x22. (Now let’s hope that we get a talk between Dean & Cas since it looks like the planned one in 11x06 got edited for time.) When Cas comes back in 11x10, I really hope they have an explanation for where he’s been too, because one of my pet peeves is when Cas disappears with no explanation. 

Dean post Mark, with Amara: I talked about this already, but I find the Dean x Amara relationship very interesting. Amara’s got a control over Dean and Dean can’t seem to fight it that well. He’s only been able to when she went and threw Sam across the room, and even then it was only for a little bit of time before her “bond” took over again. Dean essentially has no free will right now if Amara can pop him in and out of places at will, and that parallels nicely with Sam’s lack of free will now that Lucifer has trapped him again. 

The return of The Cage: THE CAGE IS BACK I CANNOT. I’m very pumped for Lucifer to be back too, because he’s one of, if not the best, villain Supernatural has ever had on the show. I’m just afraid for Sam now that he’s back in a cage with Lucifer, because, y’know what happened last time he was there. NOPE. (Also, we are unsure if Lucifer trapped Sam in the cage Rowena put him in, or The Cage which actually holds Michael too. I think it is the Rowena cage, but we’ll need to wait and see if that’s correct.)

MOTW episodes: I’ve adored all the MOTW episodes this season! Baby was incredible, Thin Lizzie was unique, Plush was both terrifying and also funny because of Donna, and Just Your Imagination was pure fun with Sully, along with Sam and Dean. Usually I’m tired of MOTW after we get a few of them in a row, but not this season! I rewatched Baby over and over, actually. 

What’s to come: The preview for 11x10 & beyond looks brilliant. Crowley in a onesie is funny, but it will probably be one of the ways Lucifer taunts Sam and I cannot. We are getting our favorite angel back, and Billie the Reaper is returning! Good things! 

I do hope that in the future I can post more of these! It probably won’t be weekly, because I watch the episode after I get home from work, but I’ll give it a go to post these more often. Thank you for reading!
