The Winchester Mystery House: Sarah Winchester was the heir to the Winchester repeating rifle fortune. These rifles were the first mass produced rifles, which meant the the operation and maintenance of these weapons was standardized, and affordable, for the first time in history. They were the weapon that conquered the west, and killed legions of indigenous peoples. Sarah firmly believed that the ghosts of murdered Indians were hunting her, so she built a mad house or hidden doors and pointless hallways in which to live and hide. She believed that so long as confusing work continued in the house, she would be safe from vengeful spirits. So work continued 24 hours a day, through her entire life.
