Long ago — back when trees were still small — my son became fascinated with geography at school.

One of those moments when your child suddenly falls in love with something completely incompatible with you. I never liked geography as a child. Not even a little.

Years passed. My son grew up. But the feeling stayed — like a small splinter in the heart. An unfinished wish.

And then, one autumn day, while once again watching the wonderful Soviet animated adaptation of The Wonderful Adventures of Nils by Selma Lagerlöf, something quietly clicked into place.

I suddenly imagined a geography book.

About us. About birds. About the quiet magic of nature and its wonders.

Bird migration — an astonishing mechanism shaped by evolution. And a tiny country, Israel, standing at the heart of this complex and beautiful process, as one of its key crossroads.
