my newborn child is exploiting an abusive power dynamic by crying until i give them milk
I see #MidnightSun trending on Twitter, and as a recovering Twilight fan myself, I just want to urge fans to consider making a donation to support the Quileute Tribe’s Move to Higher Ground Project: a project dedicated to moving the community from a tsunami disaster zone at the edge of the Pacific Ocean to a safer, better and higher ground. –and also to support other causes that directly benefit Native people such as the Navajo Hopi Covid Relief Fund. https://www.gofundme.com/f/NHFC19Relief As we speak, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is fighting against disestablishment by the Trump administration- you can learn more about how to help on their website and this great article in Teen Vogue: Native Tribe’s Rights to Permanent Homelands Are at Risk. As someone who LOVED the Twilight series, read fanfic, made fanart, and will most definitely have a raucous, drunken read-aloud party of Edward’s inner monologue if Midnight Sun does actually drop… I think it is so important to never erase that Twilight perpetuates racist and othering ideas about Indigenous people, and the series’ success did not benefit the Quileute Tribe monetarily while SMeyer and the franchise rocketed to mega-success, fame, and wealth. There’s a lot of talk about the series’ misogyny, which is important, but I think that in 2020, anybody who’s White and who’s still participating in the fandom should centralize critiques of the series’ racism, learn about the issues, and more than that, should back that up with funds and material support.
Would you recommend any animorphs fic?
Yes! A few I’ve recced before:
Animorphs: Facebook News Feed Edition by Ember Nickel. This is hilarious and whacky and has some great commentary on Animorphs’ imperfect continuity.
Take Me Out by neinlives. This one is just high-quality good fun. It’s set in a postwar world where the characters get to be happy, which I always love.
Elfangor’s Folly by KimHoppy. Probably my favorite long read in the Animorphs fandom, this is a full-series retelling of Elfangor sticking around to train the Animorphs that makes excellent use of subtly biased narration.
The Tocsin by tptigger. It’s brilliant, wonderful, painful, beautiful Tom Berenson content. Need I say more?
The Agreement by From.The.Tower. An “unseen scene” sort of story, this one picks up from Aftran’s point of view after #19 and grapples with a lot of the big ethical questions of Animorphs.
THE CLASS by Freak Apple. One time, my boyfriend was like “why do you have a yeerk in a condom drawn on your window?” This fic. This fic is why I had a yeerk in a condom drawn on my window. It’s the most brilliant stupidity ever written.
A few highly enjoyable crossovers:
The Hork-Bajir Job and Teach Me How to Say Goodbye by Poetry (@featherquillpen on Tumblr). Both of these crossovers are extremely different in tone, format, content, and plot. However, both accomplish exactly what I always want from a crossover, by providing awesome characterization for the canon team and brilliant commentary on the ways they’d function in a situation very different from canon.
The Archer with the Eyes of a Hawk by Lia. Exactly what it says on the tin: it starts with the premise that Tobias is literally Hawkeye, in the MCU. It goes from there.
My Little Pony: Morphing is Magic by Tricondon. I admit I have not actually finished this one yet (nor have I finished My Little Pony) but I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read so far. I have no idea why MLP crosses over so very well with other fandoms, and by now I’ve learned not to question.
Is Jake Awake? by StellarStylus. I was about to say “this is enjoyable pain” but really, that’s all of Animorphs. So if you like Animorphs (probably a safe assumption) you should read this.
Anyway, I’ve been neglecting to read fan fiction for a while now (the upside of quarantine means I get to read all the YA hardcover books that were too large for me to haul to and from work every day!) so this list is definitely incomplete. Please other people add your own recs — self-promotion is encouraged.
I’d like to add one!!! The World Can Wait by LadyDomino! It’s about Jahar and Alloran, and their life before, during, and after the war. Jahar goes on to rescue her husband, but learns a horrible truth. The ending is so good and I cried for days reading it.
actually even though we’re in the era of zoom, i do want to say…. if anybody just listened to students, at LEAST 60% of them would be able to give you a specific & identifiable thing that is standing in the way of their education. they already know! even second graders are able to tell me - my mom is sick. this class confuses me. i don’t like how math is taught.
and high schoolers - sometimes mere months before being able to vote, before being poached into the military - will tell you things that ring absolutely true in scientific studies. they tell me: “this is only meant for 1 type of learner.” “I don’t feel that teacher/student ratios actually allow teachers to get to know their students.” “some teachers are only here for a paycheck, and we can tell you which ones.” “my mental health is a fucking joke to the administration and my actual physical safety is not guaranteed by my living situation” “i was horrifically bullied but we both were threatened with suspension, so now i’m still bullied, just without me being able to report it” “i was told i would fail, so why would i try?”
and yet nobody fucking listens! the admin says over and over - well, it has always been done this way, so it’s fine. it’s cool we wake kids up WAY too early for their natural patterns, don’t you know? and it’s horrible. because the mental health of students is treated as a natural sacrifice for the sake of convenience.
and i just! want it to change! if it is ever going to change, this is the year it needs to change! and i also know it won’t because a devil person is running our national education department! but for the love of all that is good! if you are an educator! just! Freaking! Ask! Your! Students! What! They! Need!!!!!!
So people are making different videos for you to use in uncomfortable situations!
The majority of the Uber ones mention in some way that they have your location on. Some you would pretend are messages someone left on your phone. Some have a script for you to follow along to on screen! Some are specific to who are calling you!
here's the link for these
Many can be found under the hashtag "uber" and many suggest watching them beforehand and having a few prepared. Some of them might need to be rehearsed a little.
this has got to be THE funniest sentence ive seen all day im gonna cry

Here’s one of the reasons I don’t buy the cynical interpretation that Ariel gives up her identity for a man.
This screencap comes from her introductory scene. She’s searching through a shipwreck for human artifacts–which is her passion–when suddenly she’s attacked by a shark.
While fleeing, she accidentally drops her bag full of artifacts right in the shark’s path. Without hesitating, she chooses her passion over her safety, risking her life for a dinglehopper.
The girl is an anthropologist who studies humans. That’s her passion, that’s how she spends her time…that’s her identity.
Sure, Eric is the catalyst that leads Ariel to changing her species and leaving her family–he certainly intensifies her feelings–but they’re feelings she already has, and they dictate most of her life.
If Ariel had the chance to become a human before she met Eric, everything that we know about her suggests that she probably would.
Ariel is an anthropologist, I stand by this
Triton: Fuck your passion! Ariel: okay
it took me a second to understand the brilliance of that last reblog
