Album of the Week
3 - 9 May, ‘26
throwback to like two weeks ago when i was watching hamilton with my family and none of us could remember the plot so we were trying to guess where it started based on the set before it began, and our autistic asses decided that it must have been set in england because. of the window taxes. there was a bricked up window and we were all CONVINCED that it couldn't be new york because there would be no reason to brick up a window like that. alas it was Not That Deep
Petition to reinstate a window tax. If billionaires won't pay tax on their incomes, they can pay a tax on how many windows they own, that or board them up and live in a dimness matching their soul's.

Our Bridport sojourn – seeing the results of the Window Tax
There are loads of things I could’ve commented on during our brief sojourn to Bridport, this is my last comment. It is seeing the evidence of the effects of the Window Tax on the building opposite our hotel in Bridport. Introduced in the 18th century as supposed fairer means of raising tax than taxes on incomes. The UK Parliament website has this explanation. “It was intended to be a…

December 31!!!
Today we stand upon the precipice, looking out over the new year, the oncoming storm, and we cannot turn back. Happy New Year's Eve! I hope yours rocks. It's also Champagne Day! Everybody loves champagne. It's all bubbly and alcohol. A good mix. The British East India Trading Company received their Royal Charter in 1600 after a couple failed attempts at sending ships to India. In 1695 England imposed the very odd window tax. It taxed homeowners depending on the number of windows in their home. Accordingly, a lot of folk bricked up their windows. In 1759 Arthur Guinness started brewing Guinness. It's popular. I'm not overly fond of it though. In 1857 Queen Victoria selected Ottawa as Canada's capital. At the time, it was in the middle of the woods somewhere, hard to find and reach in case of an American attack. So a good, if odd, choice. In 1907 New York held its first big New Year's Celebration in Times Square. Dick Clark hosted. I'm kidding. Or am I? Jacques Cartier was born in 1491. He was an explorer and claimed Canada for France (not that that worked out). He also named Canada by making a mistake. There's a Heritage Minute about it. Star of stage and screen, Sir Anthony Hopkins was born in 1937. He played Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs and Odin in the Thor films. And other stuff. Also a Sir Ben Kingsley was born in 1943. He played Ghandi in Ghandi and was in Iron Man 3 as the Mandarin. Val Kilmer was born in 1959. He's not a knight, but he did play Batman. Psy was born in 1977. You may know him as the singer of Gangnam Style. It's the only video to break one billion views on YouTube. The flower of the day is how awesome this new year will be.
