Windows Blue will be Windows 8.1
It's official. Microsoft today makes the big announcement that its next major update of its flagship operating system previously dubbed "Windows Blue" will be named Windows 8.1. It should surprise nobody as many of you know that Microsoft has taken a radical turns when it comes to delivering products as fast as possible and changing the naming convention.
The service pack-eras are gone and replaced by fast updates to major platforms bringing new improvement and features pack to the table. Just like Windows Phone 7, released back in 2010 and which was brought up from 7.5 to 7.8. And the same treatment will be for Windows Clients as Microsoft stated that Windows 8.1 will be released this year, while the next major upgrade Windows 9 is slated for 2014. I suspect that Windows Server and Windows Phone will benefit for this kind of treatment too.
The result is to bring new products to the market as fast as possible and not lagging behind Google and Apple, like it was the case for past years.
