Re-imagine: Black women in Britain :::

Finally yesterday my sister, daughter and myself had a nose around the 'Re-imagine: Black women in Britain' exhibition. I have to admit that I was at first blown back and then away. Viewing it had come at such a sensitive time for me. At my own very personal crossroads, I swing like a pendulum between marching forward into freedom or wearing complacency, like a comfortable cocoon. Reading about black women who have moved towards their goals, regardless of hell or high waters, was such a shake up for me.

Spiritually, the moment was heightened due to the fact that I was reading about these powerful black women, in my own back yard while pushing around my soon to be one year old daughter.

What struck me most was the idea that, anything that makes your life better is worth doing be it for documentation or not. These women sought to jump hurdles that are now mere automatic doors to my fellow young black women. Without their bravery, the idea of my own would remain simply that.
