Walker Independence 1.12 was great as usual. I had been looking forward to this episode and being able to see everyone’s past. I loved that transition from the present to the past. It was so visually pleasing.
It was nice getting to see how Calian and Gus met and became friends. I was so sad for Gus when he got the letter his wife died. But I did enjoy seeing how he became a deputy.
I thought how Kate and Kai met was so cute! Seeing how Kate came to work at Hagan’s was fun. It was a surprise to see that Hoyt’s mom was how he got into being an outlaw. I think it’s sweet that he wears her hat. It was great to see Jared in this episode! I wasn’t expecting Hoyt to shoot him and for Jared’s character to be a deputy. I laughed when I noticed Hoyt stole his jacket.
It was interesting to see that Tom and Shane both knew about Teresa wanting Liam dead. I was expecting it be because he married Abby. I had a feeling Tom also definitely knew who Abby was this entire time so it was nice to see it confirmed when he was spying on her and Liam. The way he was looking at her like he was already catching feelings. The fact that Tom tried to stop Shane from killing Liam and Abby.
Then that ending! I don’t think Gus is dead especially with the synopsis for the next episode. I suppose that’s how Abby is back to hating Tom. I can’t wait for next week’s episode to see how everything plays out!

Philemon had a lot of really great answers here but I'll let you post what you want from that, I'll just take these cute parts about Jared:
It was amazing. And it was the choice of words. There are so many good quotes from that episode. They are amazing. What I love about it is that Jared's tweeted that last night's episode was one of the most beautifully well-written episodes. Not just of Walker Independence, but on TV. That's a tip of the hat.
Love Jared. I love Jared. Oh boy. Don't do that to me, Jared.
Same sentiment. Same. This was the first one that I was able to actually sit down and watch and be like, okay, you know what? I'm going to take this in. I'm not going to shield myself from the TV. I'm just going to take this in. And it was honestly really nice. And I feel like this, it was a good sendoff.
He really does just love Jared!
You have been one of the most interactive people on Twitter and that has been the most fun because it feels like you get to know more about the actor and not just the character. Right. So the question has to be asked, what was it like working with Jared?
I love Jared. My first time meeting Jared was at Upfronts 2022. And I had a preconceived notion of who I thought Jared was going to be because I'm like, okay, you've worked for X amount of years. They always say don't meet your heroes. And Jared was completely the opposite. He was welcoming, engaging, very, inviting. Him and Gen were just so nice. And I was like, you can't be fucking real. Excuse my language, I'm so sorry.
I was like, you can't be like, this is not how you are. And that's genuinely how Jared is. Me and Jared are friends now, and me and Gen talk often and just them as a couple. They're just so sweet and so nice and yeah, I didn't get to work one-on-one with Jared. It's okay. Eventually, eventually season two, fingers crossed, maybe Jared call my manager. Well, you are executive producer, so you just tell me what to do.
I love that he talks to Gen too??! He's so sweet! And I feel like this is often how people react to meeting Jared - they hope he'll be great, but worry that he'll just be like a million other celebs, then they meet him and he's even better/nicer than they hoped. He's one of the exceptions to the "never meet your idol" rule because he actually exceeds expectations. "You just tell me what to do" lol, love how much he just trusts Jared and wants to work with him, on anything.
What a great article, anon! I'm glad you brought it to my attention! I think Jared and Philemon are two of the nicest actors I've had the joy of following. Jared and Gen are so inviting to everyone they meet, their new friendship with Philly is such a lovely thing to witness!
@brook.willard How do you shoot a a scene at a train crossing when you don’t have a train crossing? Your wonderful production designer Bryan Norvelle and his phenomenal crew builds train tracks.
If I hadn’t seen it for myself I wouldn’t have believed how much work it was. The idea of putting some tracks down for a movie seems simple - just carve ‘em out of foam and stake them into the ground! Well, add this to the list of reasons I’m not a production designer. They laid down a full truckload of gravel, proper ties, and 8 tons of steel rail.
And after all that work we woke up that morning to find it snowing and absolutely frigid. As a standalone flashback in the episode, we decided to keep the snow on the tracks and lean into the look. With some rail extension and a dash of snow flurries added in by our VFX department - and @realmarksheppard lovingly reading the scene’s voiceover on set - a very cold morning turned into some very cool footage.
Thanks to @jaredpadalecki and @matt_barr_ for enduring the bitter cold and 1500mm closeups (it is a standoff, after all…) for our wonderful little western.
Wow! That's amazing to read everything that went into creating a short little scene. I love this crew and cast! (And love that Mark joined them on the set to do the reading.)

LOL! Kate is most definitely an indoor towns-person! It's sweet to her them say that they'd love to have Jared back any time!
Okay, I know we're all excited about Jared, but let's not forget, Gus in uniform!
