It's a sharp drop into the ocean, and who knows what creatures are lurking down there, visible or otherwise. With the beast closing in on you, you don’t have a lot of time to think about it.
You hold your breath, jump, and then the world flips upside down as you take the free fall.
You don't realize there's a person nearby to witness you take your chances and dive off the cliff headlong. You don't know what's ahead, but you do know that a strategic retreat is better than fighting against something that's too much to handle.
