2016 Shiraz, Faith, St Hallett, Barossa, $14.95 Didn't care for this at all. Goes to show how subjective this all is as rates pretty highly amongst wine amateurs like me. After drinking first night I dreamtabout different types of graphs which I loved! Second night though had to organise a party four times over and that was horrible. Tasted about as good as it was when I first opened it on 3rd day. Not a great thing. Taste = 2 wine snobs Sleep = 3 wine snobs Headache next day = 4 wine snobs Taste after 3 days = 2 wine snobs 11 out of 20 wine snobs
Annie’s Lane, Clare Calley - 2016 Shiraz, $13.95
Clare Valley is close to my heart. A beautiful wine region north of Adelaide SA with gorgeous winery cellar doors like Annie’s Lane and the region is where my husband proposed.
I picked this one up as the first of my under $15 experiment as I noted a small hand written note at the bottlo about how it is as delightful as other Annie’s Lane wines.
I wanted to like this but unfortunately it wasn’t to my taste. On the plus side it kept extremely well. So if you like it and you drink over a few days, you’re in luck! I actually found it more enjoyable cold out of the fridge.
After two glasses I also think it gave me a mammoth headache, interrupted sleep and bad dreams.
Taste = 2 wine snobs Sleep = 2 wine snobs Headache = 2 wine snobs taste after 3 days = 4 wine snobs
Total of 10 out 20 wine snobs
Goal: to find the perfect under $15 bottle of red
Sick of wasting lovely $$$ wine on just me, every week I am going to try a new bottle (likely Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz) purchased from my local bottlo in order to find the dream bottle (in my humble opinion) so I can buy up and enjoy the economic delight with less guilt (when drinking alone).
The rating method is perhaps unusual but I think, practical.
Ratings will be based on:
- taste upon opening; - the type of sleep I have including dreams; - the level of headache next day; and - whether the wine has kept well in the fridge up to 3 days after opening (the pleasure of middle class life).
Full disclosure -
I am an egotistical brat if I were to think my uneducated opinion matters publicly. The result is limited to my own personal opinion and experience and the result will benefit my own future purchases and potential cellar door adventures.
The speed at which I drink may change depending on what day I’ve had. Also, whilst the first sip will be on a clean palette, the remainder will likely be enjoyed with a variation of burgers, pizza and other fast food.
If there are multiple favourites I will choose to spend my hard earned cash on that which is most ethical (which I acknowledge should be my first step).
