Boxelder Winestop

For this one, I experimented with trying to turn the base of the wine stop down to dowel-width, glue on actual cork, and taper the cork to function as a winestop. It certainly functions, but cork does not behave well on a lathe.

Odds and Ends

I’m planning (hoping) to make a few more wine stops. I started with a piece of boxelder; not quite a burl, but had some color and patterning. Mostly practice. 

I also made 2 finger bowls. One from a piece of maple that ended up being quite small and shallow. The other was from boxelder; it was a branching piece that had red-stained pith, so I was hoping I could cut down into it and capture the Y branching red pith from the inside, but it didn’t really work. Just ended up with red spots on the bottom and sides.
