We glove the process! 💜🧤💜 Follow along with the next series of posts as we share with you the story of Dr. Jill Biden's purple custom gloves. (Post 4 of 8) Creating a bespoke glove pattern is best when we get to measure the hand in-person, but we often build gloves based on a provided hand tracing - a "turkey" just like you did in kindergarten! From the busy Team @drbiden we received a digital photograph of her turkey that we were able to scale. We make our patterns using the same techniques that were used at the turn of the century in the glove factories of Gloversville, New York. Many of the tools we have are from those factories, and some tools we use are new. In this photo you'll see an old glove stretcher from one of our predecessor's (Lacrasia Gloves) predecessor (LeBouvier of Glamour Gloves) and a new awl from @sawyercreekartistry 💪 The glove stretcher is like a reverse pliers - helping to turn the fingers of a leather glove inside-out gently and efficiently. The awl is an essential pattern-making tool, and we were so thrilled to stumble upon this small business artisan who sells these gorgeous sewing tools. The other end of the awl has a seam ripper - both the awl and seam ripper can be tucked away inside the hollow decorative wood. Each member of our #WingTeam has one, and they are cherished! #wingweftgloves #hometolacrasiagloves #lacrasia #lacrasiagloves #customgloves #gloves #inauguralgloves #inauguration #artisan #madeinthegarmentcenter #madeinamerica #madeinnyc #wegloveyou (at Wing & Weft, home to Lacrasia Gloves) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKXKOXMp-Xd/?igshid=neos0p9srv4j
