Smells of bread and sauces filled the air along with the sounds of patrons chattering about, their utensils clinked against the hard, ceramic plates almost as loud as the ambient music that played in the speakers. Servers busied themselves with multiple tasks at hand whilst they kept the order inside the restaurants in check.
There in a booth, almost away from the commotion, sat two people who were once general and lieutenant.
It started with a news broadcast, followed by a simple text message, that found these two together again. You can still feel a sense of hierarchy between the two, but it’s thinly veiled by just how they acted so familiar towards each other when they had met for dinner at a quaint Italian restaurant.
James carried himself quite composed still even with such a casual meeting, but the crinkle in his eyes gave away just how glad he is to see his former student.
“So that all happened on your first day?”
