The most important day of the year
Author: Kirill Kozhevatov Photo: Kirill Kozhevatov
Today, on the 9th December, I’m 27. I believe in the magic of numbers: 2+7=9. It means that this year is very significant for my life. If you are reading this letter now, it means that everything I’ve been heading for these last 5 years now has happened. I’m not a Dubass Boss! You’ll later understand how it came.
I didn’t even imagine that our love to winter drift drives would expand to an international web portal where Dubassers from all over the world would be a big family. I know that in every town, in every small village, there are winter drift fans.
Dubass Boss is a super hero. Like Superman, like Green Lantern, or like Kick-Ass. It’s a person who we all needed to gather us together. If you are reading this, you have known the truth. I’m an ordinary guy, Kirill Kozhevatov. For you, my friends, I’m just Na
Dubass Boss lives in each of us! Each time you drive the car and go Dubass, Dubass Boss gets up in you. In that very moment you are helping develop our common goal.
I’m very happy to see the WDLS project in progress. Soon it will be translated into English, and we’ll be promoting our Russian auto subculture among the whole world.
Lots of people know about our project. Who doesn’t — will know soon.
That’s the moment when I see it’s hard for me to promote Dubass by my own.
I want you to help me!
The easiest thing you can do is to share this letter. There are, for sure, people sharing the love for Dubass among your friends and acquaintances. Help them find their family!
If you are a Dubasser yourself, or you are a photographer or videographer, then you can write an article and tell us about yourself and your crew. We are all excited to get to know new heroes.
It’s not very easy to manage all the social nets, the portal itself and all the grounds with Dubass and WDLS presented there. If you can help me to tell the world about this new auto subculture, just let me know!
For any help, even for a simple approval and mental support of our project, I’ll thank you with all my heart!
To all the guys and towns who are already with us I want to say “Nice work!”
Thank you very much, many hugs for you guys.
Do Dubass carefully, use your head, be on trend!
Yours,
Kirill Kozhevatov
Airat Latypov: WDLS means to drift sideways
Hi everyone, my name is Airat Latypov. I’m 18. I was born and raised in Izhevsk.
I noticed Dubass party last year. I have managed to join the sought-after stream this year. My brother bought an Impreza WRX GC.
On 17th October I first saw Subarus getting sideways and I hooked on it. I thought it would be great to take photos of those unforgettable moments.
Well this is how my brother and I began to come to Dubass rides.
Each time I’m impressed how much snow there is flying out of the wheels.
The veil of snow dust which then stops in the air for 15 seconds, and loud shots from exhaust pipes puffing from blow-offs.
To look at the road through the side window — that what attracts people to drift more and more!
Sometimes I take the driver seat in my brother’s Impreza. I make some circles, grab my dose of adrenaline and get back to taking photos of reckless drivers.
I personally own an old Honda Civic of the 4th generation. This year like it was last year, I will compete in the time trial amateur ice races.
This is the first season I’ve got into photography so close.
Winter will last long so I have time to learn and sharpen my skills.

SemI – Mark + Starlet
I came home from work at 10:30 pm. Never had a chance to put off clothes as the phone rang.
It was Dima, the driver of a blue Mark. He told me to go outside for a small talk.
I came downstairs and saw the blue Mark standing on the parking. It looked cool and angry.
We went for a ride talking about the upcoming weekend and how we would film a new Dubass video.
We came to the river station and here we go: get it sideways here and there. I took my Go Pro camera and started filming that winter drift action.
We met our friend there, the driver of Starlet. We decided to look how Starlet and Mark could drift together.
Well that was that small talk I left home for. I don’t regret, it was perfect. I’m always ready to meet the guys and spend great time together.

Konstantin Kan: First Dubass
I have recently shot my first Dubass! We have got gorgeous “panning” photos. Good company and great emotions as a gift. Kazahstan sideways.
Once first snow started to fall, the Subaru club and I went for drifting to the mountains. It was a great amount of snow there and we just couldn’t drive straight! All the guys were driving lining up and putting their iron horses to one side even on level roads.
In the place of destination there were already other fans of winter drifting doing Dubass with their cars. Bumpers crushed, side steps bent, wheel trims dinged up — those are ordinary things but it never stops the participants.
There were loads of people! Some of them had come for Dubass drifting, some others just for watching. That was brilliant!
The only way to scatter the crowd is to let custom machinery go and clear the road from that long-awaited snow. That is what happened in SK Medeo.
Winter drifters can always find another place to get it sideways.
Among all the cars gathered there on the parking, I put an eye on a car that was very rear in our town — Mazda RX7.
The driver was handsomely sliding sideways, and I was standing astonished near the corner of the track, and looking at him through my camera.
There were also some moments when one of the guys became the reason for accident. He was moving from the parking to the road where a friend of mine was drifting. We were all scared to death but luckily it worked out well.
I also remember a Chaser of a very unusual colour. The beholder knew me and asked me to take a pic of his car.
I was pleased that lots of people knew me and my business.

SemI and his love story about Dubass
I was infected with love for cars in the summer 2013. In our town, Barnaul, there was an event named “ParkKing.” That event gathered a big amount of cars both pretty from the outside and loaded inside! A great party it was!
In winter I bought a Canon 600D. It’s pretty good for a beginner, I believe. At that time, there were winter drift events held in our town. I came there to take some photos of beautiful cars and to see the Dubass in the act.
I really liked when there was a lot of snow flying out of the wheels. I was impressed by that winter Dubass. I began photographing winter contests and then posting them on VKontakte.
Didn’t have time for videos in winter. Only at the beginning of the summer I got back to them. The first video was made truly badly. Shaking hands, wrong angle, the edit was horrible as well. It was the first one and took me a couple of hours to make it. I fancied filming and watch people drifting in summer. When the driver intentionally oversteers but keeps controlling it, and the thick white smoke issued from the rear wheels — you cannot stay cool.
After two months of working on myself, on my photos and videos, I could make fairly good content of a good quality. Sure, I had my failures as well. But I didn’t give up and kept doing winter drift and drag racing videos regularly.
Finally I created my own SemI production. And also made a community on VK and uploaded all my videos and photos there. Taking part in the WDLS project I want to get new useful contacts. I also want to get a higher level of my skills, form my own style, have fun in the upcoming season, and of-course, to win Key-Gimble and Mark III. Keep up-to-date with my winter drift posts, I’ll try to share more often and make it better.
