i live on the east coast and im highly underprepared for this crazy cold storm. i have two leopard geckos and a yellow belly slider turtle, and i dont know what to do if my power goes out in this cold :( do you have any ideas?
I don’t know if you can get them quickly (perhaps with Amazon prime if you have it), but you can stick long lasting handwarmers/body warmers to reptile tanks to provide heat. You can also loosely insulate them, but they need air to work properly, so you don’t want it airtight. Insulation can be found at stores like Walmart or hardware stores, or home improvement stores like Home Depot - you can get car windshield reflectors or you can get sheets of styrofoam panels, which are pretty cheap.
Also move all the tanks into the warmest room in your house (often a bathroom or something). Keep them away from the outside walls & windows, since it’ll get cold faster around those.
If you’re really struggling to keep them warm enough to avoid health issues, you can also move them into smaller containers that will be easier to keep warm. They won’t like it, but it’ll work for a temporary emergency situation.
I’m not sure for the turtle, to be honest. You could possibly try the handwarmer thing for their tank as well?
@the-awkward-turt do you happen to have any suggestions for emergency turtle heating in power outages?
