Rune’s Witchy Wishlist 2020
Damn, this has been a rough year, hasn’t it? Coronavirus has wrecked a lot of our lives, from out-and-out death to financial loss and social drought, people all over the planet are suffering.
As a witch, I believe that while it’s not our job per se, it’s certainly one of the best things we can do to alleviate suffering and bring hope to the hopeless. We could all use a little magic this season, I think.
So, in accordance with the prophecy the rules set down by Jasie/Hellbound Witch in this post here, I am making my Winter Witchy Wishlist for 2020.
Here we go!
Anything on my Amazon wishlist. I am here in the United States (and we might be possibly putting out the dumpster fire that was the previous presidential administration, thank gods), and I’d be glad to give out my mailing address to those who wish to send me gifts.
For that matter, anything on my Etsy list. I love Etsy, and I love magic stuff I find on there, but my magpie self is all kindsa random about what I put on the list.
Butterflies are my jam this year, especially anything with butterflies in winter, or dark sparkly ones.
Witch things are always welcome. I’m always collecting magically potent names, magical secrets about the world, particularly potent incantations, that kinda thing. Hells, just send me your favorite witchy books or shows. I’ve got Netflix and Hulu, if you’ve got something you like and can share, share away.
Hearts would be very nice! I’m like Regina, I have a vault of hearts. Mine are made out of paper, though, so send me a piece of paper with the donor’s birth information on it- all their first initials, their birthday, and the hour of their birth! Don’t worry, I promise to only do kind things which won’t harm the donor. I don’t need other people’s magic to do mean things when necessary.
Art, like sigils, poetry, music, anything original and by you that is something you feel I would enjoy. I’m vain enough that I really love artwork of me, or of various spirit beings I keep company with, which I will gladly describe to you if you want to do their portrait.
I love winter things, it’s my favorite season, so send me anything wintry of yours! Pictures of people enjoying the snow, pics of your video game character in winter attire, or even just beautiful pictures of snowscapes, maybe a cord with a North wind tied into it...
Holiday media recommends would be exceedingly helpful. What is your favorite winter song? Holiday movie? Your favorite game you play during this season? A story you always like to read on Christmas Eve? Hell, send me a book if you like. :)
CANDY! I love chocolate, and of course y’all have probably heard about the Peppermint Spell by now. I love candy and sweets to eat, and to share with others! Send me something homemade if you want, or just send me a commercial piece of candy you love, and we’ll eat it together over Zoom or messenger or something.
I cannot stress this enough- RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS. This season is hard on many of us. Please fill your social media with kindness and signs of hope. Care Bear Stare the crap out of people trying to bring about a plague of despair. Holly Jolly them into submission. Take no prisoners! And then show me where to watch, I want to see some Grinches’ hearts grow!
Glamourbomb- Extra Festive Version. Sneak a candy cane in some rando’s purse, and take a pic of it. Drop a little gift off at someone’s workstation without them seeing. Conspire with your friends to bring holiday cheer to someone who’s had a hard time. Magic isn’t always about casting circles and chanting spells, although you can easily work that into this too. Magic is more often about bringing wonder and hope to the heart, changing the seemingly unchangeable. Share your stories, that would be a really great gift!
Wanna do something nice for me and for someone else? Buy someone my book, Nothing But a Pack of Cards. Also, I love hearing from my readers, feel free to write me with questions about the book, or about things to do with tarot sorcery.
In that vein, I have a Patreon called Queen’s Word, and I’d be glad to see some of you subscribe to it. We have a whole Discord dedicated to discussion on various magical topics! Join up for a few months, learn some stuff, and hang out with us and chat about magic!
All right, that’s my list for the year. I like to give gifts as well as receive them, so I’ll be looking at the tags every so often to see if anyone’s made any wishes I can grant. Plus, I’m enchanting the badge below, so anyone who wishes to help bring joy and peace to those in need this season can copypaste it and post it on their page as an official member of the Holly Jolly Tumblr Witch Squad.
Happy Holidays, everyone. Be safe.
Ok so two days ago I did a spell for snow... and now it's snowing like crazy... should I consider the spell well done?
What are some good uses for snow water?
A Snow Curse
Winter Warmth: a spell for warming cold emotions during the winter
Winter’s Blessing/Cleansing Water
Those are some things I’ve reblogged that related to snow.
Personally my strongest association with snow is cleansing. But what do you associate it with? Try to turn that association into a spell.
i live in an area where winters are harsh and so cold that barely anything grows. i usually collect my herbs and plants from the forest because i don't have spare money to purchase much, most of the time. what do i do in the stretch where nothing will be growing?
A few ideas:
1) If you like tea and drink a lot in the winter, you can save the tealeaves and dry them out to use for spells. If they're in a bag, just rip open the bag before drying. Usually the tea ingredients are listed on whatever packaging it came in.
2) There are other elements you can use in place of herbs if they are easier to find. Fruits, vegetables, alcohol, even parts of trees can be used. Really you don't have to use anything at all--spell work using visualization is also possible.
3) You can use common kitchen herbs and spices in place of fresh ones.
4) Or turn meal preparation into spell work.
5) Use a pen and paper.
6) Do you get any snow? You could make sigils for your intended outcome. Write some in the snow and charge with your intent, gather the snow and allow it to melt into water if you want. You can use this as a floor wash for cleansing or put some on the insides of your wrists for glamour spells (I just wouldn't ingest any snow if I were you...) anything is possible. You can even let the sigils drawn in snow charge in the moonlight before gathering it.
You could even make snow-person poppets!
7) Icicles are fun to use for protection spells or curses.
8) Maybe some herb substitutions might be helpful.
9) This tag might be useful in regards to witchcraft when money is tight.
Good luck!
do you know any spells that require snow bc i is HEAVILY coming down and i dont wanna miss out
Well, snow counts the same as rain for elemental water, and you can use that for consecrated water, or as a base for all kinds of potions and blessings and wards and what-have-you.
Not to mention, I recently learned that icicle water is great for protection and cursing and a host of other stuff.
Plus, snow can be used for cleansing, purification, and image magic.
