Happy birthday grandpa, today would have turned 100. You are the best person I have ever known and you have been the biggest inspiration in my life. You are the true definition of a hero. Not only are you a World War II veteran who also fought in the Winter War, but you are also the smartest, bravest, most kind person who always put his family first in every life-situation and you have been this way fron the very start. When you were just a kid and your dad was sent to the Gulag camps where people starved to death, you would risk your life over and over, and you would sneak food in for your father in the Gulag camp. You would walk tens of miles to the remote camp during the harsh Russian winters, spending your nights sleeping in trees so the bears wouldn’t eat you alive. You made every single time and your father didn’t starve to death because of you. I could tell at least 20 other heroic stories about you, but I’ll save it for the book that I am going to write about you one day.
