a fanfic writer wednesday & (belated) fic writer appreciation day post

Hello, my lovelies!  I missed fic writer appreciation day (oops), so here is a belated post that I’m also posting in honor of Fanfic Writer Wednesday. 

Once upon a time, a girl named Fleur discovered Doctor Who, and then discovered Teaspoon and read all of the wonderful fic that she could.  She then found LiveJournal, and read more fic there.  Time went by, less fic appeared, and Fleur fell off of fic reading for a while.  A few years later, she began to browse Teaspoon again, and then discovered tumblr, which is where all of the new fic that she’d missed had been hiding!  Fleur fell back into fandom with wild abandon, and has been reading new fic and meeting wonderful people ever since.

Fanfic Writer Wednesday

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last did one of these, and seeing myself on someone’s list today has reminded me that I should be doing this on the regular.

I’d like to start with someone who’s fic I’ve just started devouring: @rexalexander. Rex writes mostly things that involve Alec Hardy in some capacity, and I love her for it. She writes these multi-chapter stories that tie together so nicely, and keep everyone in character and that make you feel. She writes heart-punchy one-shots that destroy me, and also writes silliness that makes me giggle. In short, she is all around, an excellent writer and if you’re not reading her stuff, you should be. She is also awesome and I love her to pieces.

She is currently working on a Alec Hardy & Jessica Jones fic, called Renegades and it’s wonderful. I love it. Both Alec and Jessica are in character and stay true to themselves. The pacing is perfect and I’m hooked. I cannot wait for the next chapter. 

The other person I’d like to rec is @wipedcleandbysummer. I trawl the #ficandchips tag a lot, looking for new fic and new authors. I found her fic Keeper of the Light on one of my forays. This fic. It’s so beautiful. I love a fic where the setting is just as much a part of the story as the characters, and this delivers in spades. She also has a WWII au: The Hall in Between and it is also brilliant. I stayed up waaaay too late last night reading it all. I love an author who takes the characters that I love and inserts them somewhere else without losing any of the things that makes them who they are. 

I also want to give a shout out to anyone who follows the @timepetalsprompts blog and who writes for us whenever we put up prompts. There is no greater joy for me then reblogging scads and scads of fic each week. I love the length of our rec posts every week, and I love that each week someone else new comes along and shares a bit of their soul with us and all of our followers. 

It’s so so so thrilling for me that you are all willing share so much of yourselves with all of us who read your fic. I can’t get over the quality and the quantity of the fics we get there every week.

Been there 14 years ago and I wish I could tell you it goes away completely, but I can tell you with support, meds (if you want), and a number of other variables it does get better. Happy to talk more privately if needed but thoughts/hugs your way

Congrats! I have happy memories of my L&D nurses. They were the best and even had some nursing students attend the second one. Well done!

Haha. Thanks! It was such a long two nights for me and the nurse I’m currently training. We earned our keep, so it definitely felt like a major accomplishment. There’s nothing worse than going back for a c-section after all that. Glad you had some great nurses for your births!

So happy that the site is back up so thanks for all of your hard work on that especially over the weekend. Didn't know if it's something on my end but it seems like the email alerts for submission acceptances/reviews/favorite updates aren't going through (at least for me). Hope it's not additional work for you!!

Thanks for letting me know! This is exactly the type of configuration that wouldn’t transfer easily from server to server, so I’m not surprised it stopped working post-migration. I’ll ask our engineer to take a look.
