Bonsai Wire Tree Mounted On Amethyst

One of my favorite gifts that I made: all recycled materials: Copper wire from old cable that I stripped and coiled. Once I had the tree formed I found an old piece of wood and used old screws to bolt it down. I used newspaper to “terraform” and then painted it white. I gave a green wash to test prints of my recent drawing that I was going to throw out and punched out a ton of hearts, which made the grass. Painted the bottom a deep green/brown. Used old felt for feet. Added on some rose quartz beads and some spots of green/brown paint on the trunk of the tree. So I thought I'd finally do an art Vs artist post... There I am... In the middle there... I do actually work with the big light on incase you think I'm mad... But this year has been different to last year... I've taken my time with pieces and focussed on the quality of what I've been making for people... I've learnt that it's not about how much you produce as an artist but more what you produce... So far this year has been quality in terms of my satisfaction... I think I've definitely established that I do two things: 1. Capture people's houses in miniature 2. Drawing with wire Workshop

I made a wire bonsai tree during the wire workshop, it was a fun, new process and learnt some new techniques on how to twist wire. With the excess wire I had on the reel I made a tiny bonsai tree which is no bigger than a pebble, there is a clay pot that I made which I'm hoping will be put into a kiln and fired up for this decorative tree to live in.

If I were to alter anything with these trees would be for the big tree I would personally like the trunk to be thicker as for the little one I would make the leaves an extension of the branches and not out of seperate wire as it was extremely difficult to securely attach.

One day when I repeat this process hopefully my version will look as good as this beautiful example of how professional looking it could be made.

This was the second tree I made, after taking what I learned from the first one and improving a bit! First of all, 26 guage wire ended up being too thin and brittle. I also made a tree from 20 guage wire, which ended up being much too thick and unpliable. I found a happy medium here with 24 guage on a 2-inch hoop! I didn't plan on adding beads to these from the start, but after seeing how nice the Yggdrasil looked, I ended up adding a wide array of different beads to these from my bead stash.
