Headaches and stomach aches and back aches. Anne had even experienced a nosebleed that morning. Bringing a child into the world was supposed to be a blessed experience, yet she could not help but wish that it was over.

"I am sure that the doctor knows what he is doing. Even if.. it is not helping much."

"I am most certain, Your Majesty." Mary said, hoping words would bring comfort to the pregnant Queen. "I have witnessed many pregnancies and had several myself. Pains and aches are common."

Gently a hand is lain upon the others shoulder in sympathy. "While doctors are correct that this is normal, it is also wise to judge yourself if you believe something to be wrong. No one knows your body better than you."

It’s a bold statement and one that presents only one escape route. For you cannot back out of a statement like that. There’s no ‘joking’, no ‘take back-sies’. She has threatened the life of a Musketeer and now she must see it through. Either he will die, or she will.

But it’s worth it — her possible death. For Athos killed her father and that is a wrong she cannot let go unpunished. Her father who was never anything but just and kind. Her father who taught her to fight, to properly handle a sword. Her father who would not see his daughter held back by society’s bonds. He believed in her; in her ability to do whatever she put her mind to and now he was gone. All because of Athos.

It would not be her that died this day. No.
