Jacquette petitioned to join, and was accepted into, the King's Musketeers at age 18, following the death of her father.

Along with three others, she has been instrumental in the protection of her Kingdom and its royal family.

The bureau feels that she, along with the other three, will make both fine liaisons and assets to its cause.

Of course, she knew that the musketeers probably liked the woodland more than she did. It was an area that she would rather not go to, full of dirt and animals.

"Athos, Aramis, and Porthos, yes? I shall let Captain Treville know of your absences."

"Not at all. I grew up on a farm; nature hardly bothers me." And she was fairly certain it didn't bother the others. At least not until you got to the birds. Then there was a problem.

And no. She was not going to let that go anytime soon.

"As always." Where one went, the other three followed. Though sometimes to Jac it felt like she was mostly the one following. But then she supposed that was what came with being the new kid. And the youngest.

Maybe one day it would change.

Four days though? Four days? If we've gone two and a half without Aramis' love-life endangering the kingdom I consider us ahead of the curve. ((those are the best things ever though))

You may think that the Musketeers care about nothing but honour, justice and leather trousers, but rest assured, they also pay attention to health and safety issues.

"I am sure."

Anne could hear about a certain musketeer all day, but decided that too much attention would cause suspicion. Instead, the Queen nodded, eyes bright with her decision.

"Next week I shall be going to the country with my Ladies in Waiting. I go every month, for special reasons. I would be honoured to have you and your friends join me as my protection."

Pause.

"It shall not be nearly as exciting as your adventures here, but it is only a day or two, and will give you an opportunity to travel. If you accept?"

Technically, Jac probably should have checked with Athos and the others. But really, if the Queen wanted them with her, then who were any of them to say no? Besides, some time out of the city did sound nice.

And hey. Aramis could hang with his bird friends again. The mere thought of which caused the girl to have to stifle a giggle.

"We'd be delighted. Just say the word and we shall be there."

"Prepare to fight. One of us dies here."

It’s a bold statement and one that presents only one escape route. For you cannot back out of a statement like that. There’s no ‘joking’, no ‘take back-sies’. She has threatened the life of a Musketeer and now she must see it through. Either he will die, or she will.

But it’s worth it — her possible death. For Athos killed her father and that is a wrong she cannot let go unpunished. Her father who was never anything but just and kind. Her father who taught her to fight, to properly handle a sword. Her father who would not see his daughter held back by society’s bonds. He believed in her; in her ability to do whatever she put her mind to and now he was gone. All because of Athos.

It would not be her that died this day. No.

But I'm trying to decide what makes the most sense. Keeping them Musketeers and having them work with ABI from time to time or just having them be ABI.

Though Princey-Pie would get to harass them a lot more if they were Musketeers.

1. NAME PRINCEY-PIE'S KINGDOM (and all the others).

2. Who's in charge? Is it still Princey-Pie's parents? I'm guessing so or else he'd you know...have to be King.

3. There is no law against a female being a Musketeer here, yes? It's just unusual?

4. Are the Musketeers ABI? Do they double duty? Or are we keeping them as liaisons that occasionally work with them cause they're busy defending their unnamed kingdom of Princey-Pie.

Things I think of as I'm trying to set up Jac's Afterworld verse.

"Mind the uniform"

It’s a simple enough statement. It’s new. It’s shiny. She’s just, officially, been made a Musketeer. Of course she doesn’t want the boys scuffing it just yet; it will get there on its own soon enough.

But underneath the top layer, there’s something else. Someone much less vain and much more practical, possibly even necessary. Jac is always very careful in how she dresses — the layers, the positioning…everything is done with a specific purpose in mind. To hide who (and what) she really was. All it would take was one slip of fabric for all that to come undone — for her binding underneath to be exposed.

And then it would be the gallows for all of them.

So, yeah, she was a little picky about her uniform.

The Queen’s smile softened, glancing at the ground for a brief moment. After a few seconds, she regained her composure, hands clasped at her front.

"I shall think on your advice. You have been of great help to me, d’Artagnan. Your friends are very lucky to have you at their side."

"He is definitely a man of many words. Whether they are always wise or not is an entirely different discussion." She smiles, the jab at her 'brother' coming easily enough. If only she knew more of the current situation; Aramis would find himself the subject of many jabs then. So many that they would be innumerable.

"And I am lucky to have them. There are no others I would prefer to spend my days with."
