Watched the finale of The Office with my dad...
Late to the game, I know, I know! I first started watching it my freshman year of college, when a good friend of mine was watching the season 2 finale and explaining the premise to me. And Jim and Pam's looks to each other and his kissing her, something about it was so sincere and so different from most TV shows, I just fell in love. I stopped watching it while it aired right around when Pam found out she was pregnant, like for no good reason I just didn't pick it up again when the next season started airing again.
So, wow, got to watch the rest of the series over the course of the last few months with my family and it is so emotional for me - for so many people. Pam's journey is my favorite. There's so much to love but Pam's journey just, speaks to my heart.
My sis in law pointed out, she says "I don't know if they intended it or not, but there's definitely implication that Roy was abusive to Pam when they were together." We know that he got so violent when he was upset after breaking up, and violent at that point, and if he was never violent with Pam I will bet you anything there was the implied threat of violence. And the fragility of her confidence, and the way her dreams were always so modest but tender, and how "speaking her truth" was so hard for her...she is just, my favorite. I love her so much. At the end, when she said she hopes "some other girl sees my story and takes courage earlier," I feel like she's talking to me.
I've always thought that ordinary things are beautiful but I've had a hard time demanding anything but "extraordinary" from myself. But I think Pam makes a point, and I see that same point everywhere I look - it's the little things that make the everythings.
Gosh. This one's for you, Pam - I'm not gonna wait on anything else anymore.
