Cakes for the Dead
I’ve been invited to a costume party in the bars of the gayborhood, and as much as I want almost every night of my life to be a writhing masked queer revel, I don’t actually want that tonight. I want to leave out cigarettes for my grandmother, whiskey for my father. I want quiet, candles, warmth.
But what if Hades and Dionysus are one? What if the holy queer dead hide behind our masks, behind our skin and our bones? What if we must drink the offerings ourselves? What if the dead walk only tonight, and only in us?
oh yes! Any NYC based witches there is gonna be this big ass witch festival near Astor place this Saturday! I forgot to make a post about it, like every witch I know is about to be up in that place. I went last year to a witch festival and I was like. meh. But I met a lot of witchy friends there and this year like everyone is going (also I think its a new event hosted by new people so its not the same as last year) so its about to be a big ass block party with group rituals, a bajillion crystals, dancing in the street, the corniest flyers for magical courses and witch circles with the CORNIEST graphic design on them, stalls for candles and ritual items that are over priced, cool witchy jewelry that looks like typical 90s grunge wear but with pentagrams and moon crescents on them, the crazy people that holler about jesus with picket signs near penn station but they all like to be down there and frame both ends of the streets and yell about everyone going to hell through mega phones and ratchet ass witches taking selfies next to them with tongues out twerking as the jesus people scream harder and pop a vein, cool fashion since NYC witches are mad extra and when we all get together especially for an event with cameras people WILL be doing THE MOST (especially black witches- and queer witches but like 90% of witches here are queer so that goes without saying) There is a Witch Pride parade that is the pre event to this witch fest. It starts at Union Square at 9 AM and they are basically going to march down to Astor place so it will only be an hour long. There’s also gonna be a drumming after party that Sunday afternoon too. So if you want to try to make more friends and network your witchy business then go there.
If you go, then See you There!
So I had a dream last night. I know to a lot of you, especially if you practice dream magic, this means nothing. But to someone who dreamed very vividly as a child and teenager, not dreaming (but a few handful of times) in the past 10ish years it was a big deal. It was a good dream too and sucked because I got woken up by a phone call in the middle of it; right after I had begun to realize it was a dream my TARDIS ring tone scared the shit out of me and I was awake. But the dream was interesting because it seemed to be a party, and I'm not one for crowds or parties. While seeming to be a big gathering I only remember maybe a handful of distinctive people there so it might have also been a small party, or this group of people including me were making our own small party within the bigger one? Anyway we were in a circle on the floor all talking about and showing/passing around crystals, talking tarot...it was so fun! It would be nice to have a witchy party someday! I hope my dream comes true.
