Plastic crystals
So tonight at my local mall it sorta dawned on me that witches are apparently trendy right now. Like we're talking sage bundles, herbs and chakra stones at Spencers, crystals at Hot Topic, pentacles at the little center kiosks, and just general new agey stuff at places you wouldn't expect. On the one hand this is awesome because you can find some stuff you'd pay 10X more for at a metaphysical shop. Like I picked up a chocker with real crystal charms for so cheap I was skeptical if they were real at first. On the downside there's also a ton of crappy quality or down right fake stuff. I got a few other necklaces where the crystals are totally fake and I'm pretty sure they're plastic. I got them because they looked nice, not for spell work so it isn't a problem that they're fake. But seriously, that doesn't mean you can't still use fake stones and crystals, even plastic ones, for magic. No, they won't carry the properties of the real thing, but you can use them for color magic, or even just as part as a sympathetic stand in for a real stone in the same way you might use fake candles instead of real ones, or a picture of an animal instead of bringing a real snake or whatever into your house. I'm a firm believer in the idea that literally everything has some sort of magical purpose if you look hard enough.
